LW won't start even after all the suggestions

I just got Limewire 4.16.7, and I am still having problems getting it to start. I have windows XP SP2. My firewall and antivirus are disabled while I am trying to fix this issue. The loading screen comes up, but then the screen that asks where I want my music saved shows up, and no matter what button I press on that menu, limewire just shuts down and disappears off of the running processes.

I did everything that all the threads have mentioned.
  • I uninstalled LW
  • I uninstalled ALL versions of Java
  • I downloaded jdk-1_5_0_11-windows-i586-p.exe
  • I deleted the limewire folder in the application data file
  • Then I installed jdk-1_5_0_11-windows-i586-p.exe
  • I installed LW 4.16.7
  • All of the installations are offline installations.
I still get the same problem after all of these steps. I tried all possibilities that all the threads have mentioned and still no hope. I also have to mention something odd though, which is that I don't actually see Java running on the tray area next to the clock....isn't it supposed to be there, or be running before limewire starts? Oh yea, and I don't have Alcohol either!

I think you may have read an old thread. Try this.

Remove All Java versions installed (via Add/Remove Programs) before you install the latest Version. (Download the JRE Offline Installer)
Java SE Downloads Fifth one down.

So I tried that, and got the 5th one down called
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6

I uninstalled all java programs, then uninstalled limewire and deleted the limewire folder in application data. Then I installed the new java, and LW again....same problem.........

Well...Humm You could try an older version. The newer versions seem to be Wreaking Havoc with most members. See Link.

OldVersion - Newer isn't always better ! Version 4.12.3 or 4.12.6 are probably the most stable versions without the useless Bittorrent attempt. Hope this Helps.

If you don't want to try an older version then post your system details and maybe we can help you with the new version.

Did you try changing LW compatibility mode? Windows NT or 2K Step 5 here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...ng-should.html

Yup, tried compatibility mode as well....that doesn't work. I think I am going to have to try and downgrade. But here is the problem, the reason I upgraded was because this same thing was happening to me with the older version of LW. But I'll go ahead and try since I have a different version of Java now.

Nope didn't work. No matter what version of limewire I try, the damn program shuts itself down!

Do you have another account on your computer? Try opening from there.

If you can access the preferences as in option > tools > Advanced >Performance, disable all those options.

I am having this exact same issue, I've tried everything, and still cannot get limewire to work. It closes down as sson as it gets to the screen that asks me where to save files.

No I do not have another account on my PC that is ever used except the guest account which is disabled.
