Default installs...nothing

I have installed the new version of limewire and I have uninstalled and re-installed Java and I am still having problems. Limewire installs fine, but when I try to open it-it loads like it is going to open and then I get nothing. When I check my task manager, it is not even in there.

I am using Windows XP, as far as I know there are not firewalls and I cannot figure why it is no longer working. Can anyone help me out with this?

Try updating your Java: Java SE Downloads
Download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions before installing this one.

Next, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

If that doesn't help, right click on the LW icon > properties > compatibility. Try running in compatibility mode for Win 2000 or NT.

Do you have Alcohol software installed? If so, look here.
LW starts then close, log: resolve_virtual_call

Default new problem

Thank you Birdy

I did everything that you suggested and it did open up, but now I have a new problem. When I am setting up my preferences, I tried to link my flash drive as my save file and it will not allow me, so i tried a folder on my hard drive and when I click the next button (for both choices), It closes. Do you have any suggestion for this new problem.

I am getting an error message that says:Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program File\Limewire\Limewire.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application support team for more info

Thank You
Cynt

Try uninstalling LW & reinstalling - see LOTR's post here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...tml#post320995

Even though you've done the Java update, try doing the whole lot again as in that post & see whether it fixes the problem!

Sometimes there are problems with deleting the preferences folder...you'll know if you've done it properly - you'll have to go through LW's setup wizard all over again

Default Not Working

I tried everything in your new post and I am still having the same problem. I don't know what the problem is. I deleted the preference folder, uninstalled LW and Java and reinstalled both from the links given in the post and still it is not working. It begins the setup wizard to let me make new preferences, but it closes after I choose the save folder. I think I am going to have to give up on LW and use another gnutella. Thank you for all your help. I will continue to check back to see if there are updates or new fixes to my problem. I really like LW-its the best that I have used, but I can't use it if it won't open.

Try these other apps - they're all gnutella clients.
Phex

BearShare

FrostWire
