AVG Update Help

I installed AVG Free and I got a pop up saying that the update was complete and I need to restart. Ok, so I listened to AVG and restarted. Once everything was loaded, the pop up appeared again saying the same thing. I restarted 3 times and the damn update wont install properly. I reinstalled the program. Nothing. How do I fix this?

Do you have any 'cleaner' programs running at start-up such as WindowWasher ?

That will do it, in many cases, as the typical 'default' set up that most users never alter is to delete TEMP files at startup...
If you ever run these types of programs with incorrect configurations you will NEVER EVER update Adobe products as well as many others, Ha Ha Ha.

Of course, the correct thing to do woud be to use almost ANY other of the free security apps... AVG, no matter what anyone may tell you, is inadeqaute.

So, the sensible FIX is to completely remove AVG - From your computer and your head.

Next ?

From the 'free' point of view, be sure to try

avast! 4 Home Edition - FREE antivirus software - Download

You have to be a bit loony to not, eventually, buy the full Pro version !

Avast is vastly superior to almost anything else you will ever have heard of.

Plus, if you really get stuck with something that Avast Home will not detect/remove, go to

Nod32 - Free Virus Scan: Use ESET's Online Antivirus Scanner

It detects AND REMOVES for free and is 100% safe.
Just remember that the ESET scan may take up to 30 minutes or so to compete, so this is not some trip you run on a dial-up conection !

Last... For those who know that the Internet Security biz is constantly changing with new and better 'stars' appearing (and the old guard not only resting on their laurel$ but possibly unable to move because they are so fat and arrogant), it is important to STOP believing in the 'brand names' of the past. Norton is a joke... So are almost all of the other 'big names'... Except ZoneAlarm, who are sincerely working on a 'comeback tour', LOL

Now, some IMPORTANT additions:

Do NOT fail to get and properly install as per instructions

Malwarebytes.org
(Buy the Pro version a.s.a.p.--- It's really cheap ! Then you have a blocker and not just a cleaner.)

and

CCleaner - Home

And, WHEN, not IF, you blow it with a deletion

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File Recovery - Home

The above kit should cover you, LOL !
(All of the above mentioned applications may be quite happily run concurently ((at the same time as)) with whatever internet security or anti-virus app you are using.)

p.s. As an interesting footnote... ALL of the good protection/cleaning software is now coming out of Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, former CCCP Baltic states and emigrants from said countries who have settled in Britain or Germany. Don't believe it ?
Check it out.
I think it's GREAT !!!
