Try updating your Java: Java SE Downloads Download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions (via Add/Remove Programs) before installing this one. Next, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location). Fixes for LimeWire This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later. If that doesn't work, try reinstalling LW. See LOTR's advice here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/320995-post377.html If you want to keep using that older version, there's a 4.16.6 that I've hosted here: LW basic 4.16.6.exe |
I have had an issue with reinstalling Limewire in my pc for about month now I've done everything from follow the instructions that LOTR said and with no luck. I'm running the following set up on my PC Windows XP SP 3 AVG 8.0 CCleaner Windows Firewall 80 gig harddrive 512 ram 1.6ghz processor Current Java Internet Connection is Comcast Cable High Speed Internet It gets as far as Save Folder & Share Folder in the Setup menu and then it locks up my PC and I am force to Ctrl Alt Delete to be able to do anything with my PC. I have even tried Frostwire and Phex with no luck as well...Any idea would be a huge help. |
So you've been able to install LW in the past? Which was the last version that installed properly? What's changed since then - new hardware, new/updated software etc? Have you tried installing older versions of LW, to see whether the problem's version related? Try the older version in post #4. Have you been able to install other p2p apps that aren't Java based (LW, Phex & FW all are)? Try the version of BearShare mentioned here & see whether that installs: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-d...sabotaged.html Did you try reverting back to an older Java version (in the 'fixes for LW' link, there's a link to an older Java)? When you switch Java versions, are you making sure to run only the one version of Java at a time? :) |
I did have an older verison of LW on my machine until a few weeks ago when I had a problem with my computer and I wiped the hard drive clean and did a clean install of windows using the system recovery disks that came with my PC when I purchased it back in January of this year. I have tried older versions of both LW and Java with no luck either way. I havent tried one that wasnt Java based as of yet guess I will give that a try. If that doesnt work I will repost and look for more ideas. Again Thanks for your ideas |
Ok folks I tried Bearshare and it works with out an issue..... So I would assume its an issue with Java and LW...Can anyone give me some ideas on this issue??? |
I'm not sure if it'll help at all, but see whether any advice here makes a difference: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) - Java programs freeze my computer Are you having any problems or error messages during your Java installations? You can verify your Java installation at this page: Download Java software for Windows from Sun Microsystems Unless someone else has a better idea, I'd suggest asking at the Java forum. Try this section: Runtime Environment Even though it says 'developer forum', you might get some answers there & I really don't know where else to send you:o |
Yesterday I went to use Bearshare and it redirected me and told me that I have to pay for the service and I refuse to knowing the there are programs out there like LW and FW. And I have tried all the ideas when it comes to the Java issues but I have yet to fix the issues and to complicate matters a friend of mine came over with a newer laptop and was able to load FW with now problems so I retried to load LW on my machine as well as FW with no luck...I really think that its a conflict problem between Comcast Internet and Java how do I go about getting around this problem other then the ways already listed on here which I have tried to do with no luck |
