It looks like iTunes 8 has compatibility problems with the LimeWire shared playlist. Also some iTunes 7 versions (I think 7.6 & 7.7).

If you have a version of iTunes 7 that works well & you're happy with it, I'd stick with that. I've gone back to iTunes 6. If you need info about reverting to an older iTunes, check out this post: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/tips-t...tml#post327806

Do you want to downgrade from iTunes 8 to 7??

I gave you a link with info about downgrading, check post #2. That link has info about downgrading from iTunes 7 to iTunes 6...see whether the same things work when downgrading from 8 to 7.

Do you have an old installer saved? If not, you'll find links to download older versions of iTunes here: Old Version of iTunes Download

Thread merged with your original thread to avoid confusion.

Classic. I too was afraid to try the version 8. Generally, Mac will imbed a sort of INI-file on their latest release which prevents you from going backward. However, these System 9.2 to X.x issues have mostly disappeared, as the .dev community became 100% UNIX-like in their thinking. Now, you can run multiple [but only OS-X native] Ap-versions at the same time.

Dropping the (good) library entries, or file onto the <NEW> iTunes open window will merge the two libraries, although it's not a 100% trouble-free solution. You still have to 'authorize' one or the other before your weekend of pain is through.

='(
I had iTunes 8 on my computer, and followed all the steps given in the link to downgrade to iTunes 6, and every time i try to open itunes, it says "The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." OMG what do I do????? I know virtually NOTHING about computers. =(
I'm running on Windows XP, if that helps at all.
Please help.

Edit:
nevermind i think....i used an even earlier library and spent forfreakingever re-adding the hundreds of songs i'd downloaded since then, and now it lets me drag-and-drop my limewire songs too =)

But why won't it let me do that with my videos? they're .avi files, if that helps, which i'm sure it would. =)
I'm just happy my music is working for now though =)

I cannot remember if videos are addible for iTunes 6. I think it was. But videos need to be mpeg 4 or H.264 format. AVI is not a format in itself, a little like quicktime, it could potentially be any video format inside such as mpeg2 or mpeg1, etc. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...tml#post320511

One way of re-adding the files would be simply drag & drop the iTunes Library folder onto the Library icon in iTunes, else if that does not work, choose Add folder from file menu. Depending on number of songs it could take a long time for iTunes to re-add them to it's library file database.

Come to think of it, perhaps a better idea would be to just select the iTunes Library folder in preferences as location to store the files, then go to Advanced menu & choose (cannot remember what it was called) an option which moves all files in playlists to Library. Might not even need to do that after closing & reopening iTunes.
