The old version 1.7 without Cydoor and Topmoxie is still on the web. Look in the "open discussion" forum. Besides there are many programs using the same protocol (but LW is not the only one carrying adware)
Cydoor can be deleted with adaware (but that makes all limewire versions beyond 1.7 stop working). For Topmoxie you do not yet have a choice but to trust the makers of it and use the uninstaller.
What Cydoor officially does makes it "adware" not "spyware", but it shows some yet unexplained behavior, so you cannot be sure. Especially because Cydoor company already once made wrong statements about one of its programs.
Topmoxie is a browser hack, that makes commercial sites think, that a clickthrough to them came from Limewire. It is more an annoyance for those companies than for you. I haven heard about an issue here.
I think it is great, that you make people aware of the existence of spyware. There are so many naive people using computers. As long as you can see the line between awareness and paranoia, you're doing a great job with this. |
