Shared Files! Not!

Running LimeWire 5. Don't want to share files and thought that I had set it as such. However; today whilst downloading a movie (P2P); I found that it was in fact sharing the movie. Can't have this as my ISP does not allow the sharing of copyright material and I have been warned several times! ( I was using Vuze before; that is why I switched to LimeWire; to not share!)
Why is LimeWire doing this when I set it to not share?

LW 4 did have an option to disable partial file sharing. It appears LW 5 does not yet have this option. I could only suggest downgrading to LW 4.18; Lime Wire » Download Out-Of-Date Installers

But the share files immediately option is still an option to enable/disable as image below shows for LW 5:

Edit: A dev. replied about the issue for LW 5 here: http://forum.limewire.org/showpost.p...22&postcount=2

I guess you need to double-check your sharing options. Remove all items from Library option in your Options window; see more about that here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/gettin...tml#post338054 & also check the Configure button option, this setting is important. :)

I do have the option "share files downloaded from the P2P Network" not checked. Always did. This is the one that changes back to being checked sometimes!
At this time LimeWire seems to be running okay ( except maybe sometimes when my CPU jumps to 100% ). I have set the setting in "Options/Advanced/Transfer" to allow "0" uploads; and have set the upload speed to "Zero". This seems to be working as when I'm downloading and I check what is happening in the uploads; it will show the uploads but with Zero transfer speed. But why it even shows any uploads happening is beyond me!
Has LimeWire ver 4 P2P capabilities? Is it basically the same as ver 5? If so; I just may revert to ver 4!

You will have more control with LW 4. It has more functions. Get LW 4.18 from the link at top of my post above. :)

Go to LW 4's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Sharing, Basic - disable 'Share Finished downloads' option. Then next sub-tab down, Sharing-Advanced, disable 'Partial File Sharing'. Disable share torrents. I do not recommend using LW for torrents, instead use Vuse or uTorrent.

oh .. and Tools -> Options -> Sharing, remove any shared folders you see in that window. By default it will have something like C:\Documents & Settings\username\My Documents\LimeWire\Shared. Only disadvantage with dropping that folder is won't be able to use media player lol :D No biggie, LW's player is not the best anyway. ;)

To be sure, Tools -> Options -> Uploads & zero everything in speed & slots tabs.

Why do you suggest not using LimeWire for Torrents? I was using Vuse; that is how I got into trouble with my Isp; I couldn't find a way to prevent sharing with it!
I will probably revert to LimeWire 4.

lol ... yes torrents does require sharing. And Vuse more or less forces you to share. If your share ratio gets too low, it auto slows your download speed until your ratio picks back up.

I have no idea how LW handles sharing with torrents & how it deals with ratios. It does not show ratio figures anywhere. And since you can choose not to share torrents with LW, perhaps it is an option.

Some torrent programs including vuse include options which some users use that limits their sharing to people with a ratio higher than their specified amount. Some people have these set rather high, so many people cannot download from them.

As for LW, it is not officially recognised as a proper torrent program. And thus some sites & some private torrent clubs ban it.

Have been using LimeWire for the past three weeks and I am fairly happy with how it works. Will revert to ver 4; hopefully I won't have any problems doing that. Seems to me; I recall that any time I have wanted to revert any program back to an earlier version, it would not let me do it!
I have never had any problems downloading from any P2P site. If it does ever happen; there are always other torrents!

Deleting LW preferences might be my only other thought.

LW will normally uninstall the other version at beginning of installation, however you can manually uninstall it via Start menu -> All Programs -> LW -> Uninstall. :)

Done; and it is working! It's the same version that I was using prior to Ver 5. I did a reinstall of my system back on January 31; therefore when I reloaded everything; I used the most up to date programs. Liked ver 4 than and I think I will like it this time also!
