![]() i had limewire downloaded on my cpu. im running xp. i had a problem with my sound so i restored my cpu to an earlier date. fixed the sound problem but my limewire will not open when i click on the desktop icon. so i moved my saved music to another file, uninstalled limewire, and tried re installing it....no luck....so i tried my system restore again to an ealier date of about 30 days when everything was working fine. still not able to open my limewire, so i have stopped trying to fix it and writing this post, it looks like i have limewire 5.1.2. can anyone help get this running again...thank you. |

![]() I'm having a problem with the updated version5 of LW. I have a Mac with OS X system Tiger and I guess I'm at the end of Tiger updating and I didn't know that before I downloaded the new version of LW and it says I need java 1.6 to run the new version of LW. Since my mac operating system can't update anymore in order to give me java 1.6, I guess I need to go back to the older version of LW. I'm not sure how to do this? I've tried downloading the classic version of LW but I think I must have to delete the new version before doing this correct? How do I do that without losing all my music files? I'm not real computer savvy so if someone can tell me exactly how to do this I would appreciate it. |

![]() you seem pretty knowledgeable of Mac operating systems. Can I pick your brain? I'm wondering if I should just upgrade to the Leopard instead of staying with Tiger that cannot be upgraded anymore to avoid these kinds of problems. By doing this, would it allow Itunes and everything else to be upgraded and operate better, chat features, Limewire etc. I hate when I get to about 3-4 years out on a computer and it comes to this point. Someone on the apple forum said he would stick with Tiger because Leopard was twice the size with twice the size upgrades etc. and some applications would need to be upgraded also or they wouldn't work. I know this is a Limewire forum but just would like another opinion. Thank you so far for your help. ![]() |

![]() Each new OSX version has some nice little new touches to them. However you also need to consider your machine & how it would cope with Leopard. My G4 733 which started with erm .. cannot remember if it was 10.1 or 10.2, but I'm leaving it at Tiger (another G4 also being left at Tiger). My new machine (a year old now) came with Leopard. Rumors are that Snow Leopard 10.6 will be out before the end of the year, possibly mid year. It is a little disappointing that apple stop updates for earlier OSX's after a time. Java is the first one they stop. As far as upgrading just for the sake of LW 5 is not a good reason. I can assure you LW 5 is not as good as LW 4 as far as experienced users are concerned. At this point, LW 5 is still missing many tools that LW 4 has. There's been many old & new users reverting to LW 4 even when LW 5 was their first experience at using LW. Perhaps by end of year LW 5 will be a decent program. But at present, it is CPU hungry, hates large amounts of shares or incomplete files & will be very slow loading & responding if you do have many. Difficult to know if this is due to LW's new development territory they're learning or OSX's Java 1.6. Apple make their own Java unlike windows & linux, & Apple's java has never been anywhere near as good. Some of their Java versions have had major memory leaks. LW 5 dropped Chat & by sounds of it they will not be bringing it back in. They also dropped Direct Connect, which has more or less been replaced by Friends. There's already been problems with this option. ![]() ![]() There might be some programs you need to update for Leopard, however in general Tiger is a great system. I wouldn't rush into Leopard quite yet. ![]() My Leopard System folder uses up 3.84 GB, My Library uses 23 GB but most of that 16 GB is due to Application support which is for some very heavy graphic programs. At present system using about 1 GB ram for the system, but that might also be due to some other rather heavy applications using the system's resources, as well as their own ram. ![]() Oh good! I wasn't looking forward to updating. I guess once I become comfortable with something I don't see a reason for changing if it is working for me. Now to follow your above instructions and see if I can get the older version back. I may need you again for this if I run into problems getting L5 off and L4 back on if you don't mind. ![]() |
