LW enlarges screen, than crashes

I am running Limewire Pro 5.1.2 on a Windows XP system. Every time that I click on my program, my computer screen turns black, than the resolution increases. So all of my icons, my mouse cursor, toolbars, ect are almost double the size that the normally are. After this happens Limewire starts to load and will come up. But almost as soon as I can click on anything in the program, Limewire will shut itself down. After Limewire crashes, my screen will return to normal.

I never had these types of problems when I was on limewire 4. Can anyone make any suggestions?

on the safe side, run a virus scanner.
reboot to an earlier profile if possible, before the issued had start occurring.
