Missing Features/Function I tried several searches and couldn't find anything relevant. If I've missed reading something regarding this please point me in the right direction. I'm noticing much of what made previous versions of Limewire very usable for me is now missing. I really relied on these few features that now seem missing: 1. Number of hits in tab titles--when performing a search I could quickly peruse searches and see number of hits without having to click and look in each search window. 2. Searching on downloads--in the download window I could start typing a file name and the focus would move to the correct file. This was really important as occasionally I would have a large backlog of files. 3. Single-line file display--now files show as two lines with the name on the first line and cutting my display page by 50%. Can this be changed or customized back to the way it was? 1 file per line is sufficient. 1 file every other line wastes real estate. I didn't post system details as I do not think these issues are system-specific. If I am mistaken I will gladly post any required data. Thanks! |
I guess you've moved from LW 4 to LW 5? Which version of 5 are you using? 1. If you mean number of search results (rather than hits) showing in the search tabs then no, that info's not showing in LW 5. You could post at this forum: LimeWire Forums & ask whether the devs plan on adding that to later versions. If you want to show hits (ie how many times your files have appeared in peoples search results) then click on My Library > right click on the column header > put a tick next to Hits. Now that column will show. 2. Not sure what you mean here. Do you mean the download window (where downloads in progress show) or the search results page (where you choose which files you'd like to download)? If you're in Classic view (see below) then typing in a title to search for will show that title below your search tab if you've already searched for that title in the current LW session... is that what you mean? If I haven't understood you then let me know;) 3. Switch to Classic View & then the search page will look similar to LW 4 (see below). http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...lassicview.jpg If you want to to have more info showing on that search page, click on the category (ie Audio, Video etc) & you'll see the option to show more info... like bitrate, album, extension etc. Put a tick beside any extra info that you'd like to see & a new column will show:) You haven't said which version you're currently using. My screenshot is from 5.2.2 Beta. If you're using a 5.1 version then the categories will show at the top of the search page, rather than to the side as mine do. |
Thanks for the response, birdy! I just moved from 4 to 5.1.3 1. Yes, I mean number of search results. I'll check out the forum you recommended. I really liked that because I could easily decide to close searches based upon number of results listed in the tab without actually having to click and open that specific search window. 2. Searching within a view--in my previous version (maybe 4.1.18?) If I selected a view I could begin typing the name of a file. Each letter you entered would cause the focus to jump to a file (assuming one exists) that matches the characters you have entered. This worked in both the download and upload views and would allow you to easily find a specific file. This is important because you can perform functions on a file once you find it. It can be difficult, if not impossible, in a long list (if you're in a situation where you need to keep that long list). 3. Yes, that's it! Thanks. Now if only it also worked for the downloads page :-( I don't know why they would think of that for the search results windows and not include it on downloads. If I don't see it when I"m more awake I'll also add that when I look at the forum you recommended in your answer #1. Thanks again! |
LW 5.2.2 includes more filters for search results. Also, the downloads window is visible at all times no matter which window you're viewing. |

Not sure what you mean by upload & download views however since they do not have search functions for such files already in the list. Remember the P2P Network window shows only the files that are being shared. At present the Library window shows shared, unshared & incomplete files (faded out & with 'Downloading' at end of name in brackets) for LW 5.2.2 at least. Perhaps you might wish to look at the LW 5.2.2 beta, seems quite stable & has some extras LW 5.1.3 does not have: LimeWire 5.2.2 (Beta) - Lime Wire Using the Library search will display incomplete files, & you can right-click the heading bar to show more options such as bitrate, uploads, upload attempts, hits, filename, size, etc. |

If you had a long list of files in both views you could click on any file in the view you wanted to search and then start typing. Pressing "T" (for instance) would bring you to the first file in the list starting with "T". If you then pressed "e" you would be taken to the first file in the list starting with "Te" (e.g. Test.txt). You could keep pressing letters to jump to the file you were looking for. That was a very handy feature in the pre-5 Limewire client for searching long lists of files in either search windows or the download view. I hope that is enough explanation to clarify how the pre-5 client worked. I do not know if this was available in pre-4 clients but I used it regularly in a number of the 4.x clients. In the 5 client pressing alpha keys in any view doesn't appear to do anything and there's no way to search within a view (either search results or download) that I have found. You are forced to slowly scroll down the list of files. You can hit ctrl-F and a "Find" window pops up but it appears to be non-functioning. I tried using very obvious values and even values (portions of file names) displayed on the screen and it always fails saying value not found. |
I've been using LW 7 years but was not aware of the ability of using letters like that. Perhaps I stumbled across it accidentally whilst doing something else & didn't think twice about it lol :D With LW 5.2.2, the download window is now available 'all' the time no matter if you're looking at Library, P2P network window or uploads or friends or a browse (that's an improvement compared to LW 4). You can also resize the download window to suit your needs as you suggested about LW 4 above. But still no ability to do as you were hoping with the typing of letters in any of the windows. The beta has also re-introduced some filters at the side of search results. And also added a couple new filters. Size, length & bitrate filters. Though a bitrate filter was possible to use in LW 4, it didn't have a slider. Ability to browse uploaders was re-introduced in the beta to bring it back in line with LW 4. The Beta will also auto-delete some of known virus files once download is completed (hash of file matches known virus spam.) Try the beta out & see what you think. No damage done if you don't like the beta & wish to downgrade back to 5.1 or even 4. The Beta seems to be stable. ;) There is a beta 5.2.3 coming but I'm not sure when at this point. I am aware they will be reworking the Library to improve it but ... not sure any of that work will show as early as the beta 5.2.3 |
number of search tabs for some reason limewire only lets me see 1 of my search tabs at a time I have to click something to get to the other search. do any of you know how to make it where I can see at least some of my search tabs at the same time?? |
1 Attachment(s) You can only view one tab of search results at a time. LW has always been that way. Attachment 5117 (click to see sample image) |
