Default Lime Wire Freezes/Crashes My Whole Computer

So I star Lime Wire and after a few seconds everything freezes. I left it like that for a day and it didn't unfreeze. So I can't use Lime Wire, because it freezes my whole computer.

I have Windows XP
Lime Wire 5.1.4
Java 6 Update 14

What should I do?

Which version of LW are you using? Which version of Java? Which operating system version?... sighs ... Could have saved both your & our time providing those details in your original post.

All up to date then. Here's some suggestions:

1. If you have a different hard disk drive or disk partition with lots of spare space, change your download location to there via LW's settings.

2. Close LW, Defragment your Hard disk drives.

3. Download & install the LW beta LimeWire 5.2.8 - Lime Wire as this version is faster to open & close & should require less computer resources.

4. If still problems, delete your LW preferences folder, but save your downloads.dat file; see first post of Fixes for Limewire (click on blue link)

5. Disable Ultrapeer mode & TLS in your settings; LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Superreallyadvanced -> Performance.

6. If still problems, remove some of your incomplete files via canceling them from the LW download window. Such as those at zero% downloaded.
