Stays Connected for 5-6 hours and then ?

Everything connects and download/uploads and all that. However, since the AVG update (I'm using 5.5.8Pro) on Vista Home Premium- I have 4G Ram and 700Gig Available on drive. I use Windows' Firewall and I use a Netgear Router. Here's what always happens. After about 5 hours connection time my router loses its connection to the internet. I just kill power to my router and start it again and everything connects again for about 5-6 hours (sometimes a little longer) I always have nothing running when Limewire is running. My email program is even closed. I never experienced this problem unitl the AVG update. I do have AVG on my computer for virus control, but I entered Limewire as an exception on it. I do use UP&P. I don't know what else to tell you. To my knowledge no program is initiating or running that would cause any problem with Limewire. I've used this product for years with the same stuff on my computer.

Wireless connection? These are most susceptible. Also torrents sharing using up a lot of connection which may be making your router struggle with UPnP.

Wireless?? Torrents??

Yes, I am wireless, but I've been wireless for years using Limewire without any problems. Now, I don't understand about torrents. As far as I know I don't need them. I only want MP3s anyway. Can I disable torrents in the Limewire program? When I upgraded to the latest version the AVG came with it. Maybe the upgrade is different regarding the torrents or something?

Is it possible that my Netgear Router is too old for torrent files or something? The router works very well with all programs, but it is old.

Modem/Routers

My solution may not have anything to do with your problem but it can't hurt to try.

You see, I found that my modem/router (Speedtouch ST585 v6) disconnected me from the Internet after a few hours when it got hot, so I bought a small desk fan and had it blow a constant flow of air across it thus keeping it cool and putting an end to my disconnection problem.

A friend of mine, on my suggestion, tried the same solution on his cable modem and it solved his disconnection problem as well.

Hope this helps

That sounds like a reasonable solution and good thinking. Also, it's cheap. I like it and will try it. Thanks

LimeWire is not too bad. One thing I discovered is that you can download the Pro version of LimeWire from the free version ... no payment necessary. Obviously someone has allowed it to scan their computer for files to share after they purchased it ... silly them. There are fakes though, just make sure the version number matches what is on LimeWire site. Also make sure you have a good anti virus and updated.

Not with the newest versions since about LW 5.5 because LW Pro is now individually code activated per person's pro account length. And the newest pro versions come with AVG anti-virus.
