LimeWire v5.5.8 (suck up all my bandwith just by starting Limewire) Why is it that the new verson of LimeWire suck up all my bandwith just by starting Limewire? I'm not doing no download or there is any uploads going on. And Limewire continues to take all my bandwith to the point that my IE or Firefox stop working an even messagers. Before I spend my hard earn money on this New update I need to know why is this happening and what I can do to stop it. And upgrading to the new Pro with the Anti-virus will it be able to use ones own anti-virius program instead of AVG? I had that one and it did not do good in protecting my computer. |
Which version of Java are you using? Has this has just happened after updating LW? Try updating Java (or reinstalling, if you already have the latest update): Java Downloads for All Operating Systems - Sun Microsystems Download the offline installer & remove any other Java versions via Control Panel before installing this one. Restart your computer after installing the new Java. You can disable AVG from within LW's options & then use your normal AV to scan files before opening them. In LW go tools > options > transfers. Untick the box to 'scan files I download for viruses' > ok. Now you'll just have to scan all downloads with your normal AV before opening them - as you would've done in the past ;) |
Yes I am up to date on the Java v6.0.200. An Yes, this just happen after updating LW. I want to thank you for your response and your reply. I have gone as far as to completely remove LW and reinstall it with the same issue happening. I have gone back to my ole v5.1.2 of LW and it works like it should. Oh, by the way my OS is Windows XP. |
Sleepless edit: Wares is not allowed on the forums!! |
not sure what "chipborn" said but i get a feeling that it wasn't helping me in my issue. Thank you anyway chipborn. |
New Update to the issue. I have notice that when I start a download and the download speed is at 1kb or 300kb, the new LW suck all the bandwith from my network to where none of my other computers are able to do anything over the internet. An if i cancel the download it still continue to eat up my bandwith. I have to completely shut down my computer and come back up for me to get my bandwith back. Does anyone know the reason WHY and how to STOP IT? |
Are these Torrent files or regular Gnutella network files? In LW 5.5.8 there are separate settings you can use for torrent up and downloads. Unlike proper torrent programs, you cannot set how many connections however (how many people are connected to you per file which is probably costing a lot of bandwidth in messages between each. Not only that but tends to clog some modems/routers especially if they are wireless. For example, with Azureus/Vuse you can set how many connections per file.) |
These are regular Gnutella files. I dont use torrent. I have in the pass, but not now and that was a program all on its own. From what you told me that you got me thinking and I went back into the LW 5.5.8 and went to the Configure Torrent Settings... and set everything to (0)zero. Maybe this will work maybe it wont. Wish me luck. Thank you Lord of the Rings. |
Update to LW 5.5.8 issue. After setting the torrent to all (0)zero I thought I might of found the problems. Guess not with my luck. Now after starting LW it will slowly take all my bandwith from my ISP an keep my other computer from getting anywhere on the internet. LW 5.5.8 is really starting to prove to me that it's not up to par. I would hate to think what the Pro does if the basic is doing this. Does anyone have any thoughts what is causing this and how I can stop it? Before anyone say that it's could be something else on my computer that is doing this. When I shut LW down and exit out of the program my network comes back and all my other computers are able to get on the internet. There are no uploads or downloads going on when this is all happening. |
Looks like no one has any thoughts as to what is causing this issue with LW 5.5.8. No One? |
Try this: Go to LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Advanced, Performance tab. Then check to disable both Ultrapeer and TLS abilities. These can both have an effect on system performance. You may also wish to limit both your up and download speeds to 10-15% below present settings for both regular Gnutella files and torrents: Tools -> Options -> Transfers, Settings button. Check the limit up and download bandwidth options. Example: if present upload or download speed is 100 KB/s, then change to 90 or 85 KB/s. Do this for both. ;) |
Lord of the Rings thank you again for the info. I have try what you said and found it still doesnt stop the program from taking my bandwith from me. Again still no upload or download are being done. This is just me starting LW. For the life of me I dont know what to do to stop this from happening other then not use this verson of LW. |
Try this then: Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) * Note: also follow the instructions for backup of your Downloads.dat file. BTW have you scanned your computer recently for virus, spyware, etc.? |
