A pop-up message about infringement...
 

Ok I received a call from my cousin today saying that she turns her pc on and gets a pop-up as soon as her desktop is supposed to load....it goes on and on about copyright infringement and this that an the other.. then goes on to talk about taking it to trial or settleing out of trial.... she has no use of her pc at all to even remove limewire from her drive. Whats the deal with that? :mad2: all she wants to do is reformat start over fresh and get rid of anything that may or may not incriminate her...she does not have an actual copy of xp just the restore disks from the place she got the pc from. safe mode does not work either so removing limewire that way is not happnin either.

Does she want to uninstall Limewire from her computer? If unable to use Windows to uninstall, try Revo Uninstaller (it's free, just Google it).

I don't think she can re-format her drive using the recovery disk.

I would say check any contact numbers etc. and sue whoever planted the trojan, which bricked her PC, for planting it. In other words use the law in her favor.

Sure...use the law...."hey I was downloading music and my computer got a trojan" that might work if you were a politician thats immune to the laws they make.

It doesn't matter what she was doing. No one has the right to take over her PC. Planting a trojan/scareware etc. rendering the victims PC useless is a far greater offense than downloading music.

That video "Cleannet", seems a bit too sugary and over simplistic and I'm not sure it got the point it was making across. For me, it advocated crude censorship like they have in Iran, North Korea and other non-democratic countries.

BTW, how do you get the video link to vanish from your post after the video has been viewed?

Anyway, I do agree with your sentiment:However, just like no one has the right to come into your home uninvited but you know they will if you do not lock your front and back doors and all your windows.

Likewise, your PC is just like your home so that when you surf the Internet you must also insure that your PC, as far as possible, is locked down with protective apps.

You see, I envisage a PC on the Internet is like a home on a main road/street. If the the lights in that home are all turned on, the doors and windows open then uninvited guest will come in, do what they like and take what they want.

Well, an unprotected PC on the Internet is just like that home on the main road with all it's lights on with it's doors and windows open.

cleanternet is not a promotional video. It's a video to show worse case censorship scenario. In other words a warning.

Listen closely the next time you hear one of the pro copyright/anti filesharing lobbyists speak about how Government, ISPs etc. should limit consumers and Internet users. Then remember the video and you'll see why it was made. Also scroll down on the site and read the rest, not just watch the video.

Pro Copyright organizations are using "Child pornography" as an excuse to sensor the internet file sharing sites.

Just like the site isn't really trying to keep access to "Child pornography" easy.

In a way you could call it black comedy I guess.
