I never did upgrade to v5 when it came out (that and I didn't like some of the changes v5 had). I stayed with v4.18. I just turned it on after reading all the posts on here. And is it ok to use it or do i need to add something to it? Or do I need to downgrade?

I've read every single post on here but I'm still not sure of what to do!

If it works fine stay with it. :) Any version 4 up to 5.5.10 are fine to use. Yes the earlier LW 5 versions were not that good. Anything below v. 5.3 were somewhat basic.

Haven't noticed any connection problems yet. just wasn't sure if it would run.

I've used LW since the 1st version came out. I upgraded to 5 when it came out and switched right back minutes later. I just didn't like the lay out.

Unless you have LW 4.18 pro & no longer have the installer, might be worth having a look at LW 5.5. The search results can be viewed two ways. One is classic which is almost same as LW 4. The other is List view (the default), which I always disliked. There is a button top right of search result window where you can switch between view modes.

With LW 5.5 the download window is in view at all times. That is one advantage over LW 4. It has a size filter for search results which is handy, something that had been requested for many years (& was my very first request for an improvement.)

Stop/cancel of a download deletes the incomplete file also in LW 5. This is both good & bad depending on how you use LW. No incomplete list in LW 5, incomplete files are included in the library but usually marked somehow as incomplete.

No direct connect in LW 5. Only equivalent is reserved for private sharing with friends.

No ability to pause downloads in 5.5.

LW 5.5 starts, loads & connects faster than LW 4, even with large shares.
Adding files to share is faster. Easy to drag & drop files from desktop/folders to Public shared or Library or between Library to Public Shared list.

Users are listed via psuedo names depending on their ip address at the time. This was an attempt to provide some privacy. You will notice this if browsing someone's files.

This is as much as I can think of off-hand.

Finally LW 5 became a decent program. LW 5.0-5.2 were bare bones versions.

Well you beat me to starting to use LW, I started with v.2 in mid 2002.
