I dont know if its an IE setting or what but whenever I try to install the software I get the little progress box up and once it gets to "installing java" it stops 'installing' and starts 'stalling' :) I let it sit for a while and got nothing... anyone have any ideas??

Thanks!!

Try to install java separatly.

pintodave June 16th, 2006 03:06 PM

God now I am really going to sound like I dont know what I am doing... but I guess I really dont.

It says its trying to install java as a part of the process of installing the limewire software. I didnt think I had an option as installing the java software, its like it trys to do it automatically. Dont I already have Java? Unless you mean to try to get the most up-to-date version of Java seperatly.

Install Java using the manual (offline) installer here
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Now install LW using it's offline installer
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

:)

If you are running 64 bit windows xp then this may help I found one answer, decided to sticky it but it applies systems running 64 bit windows http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...wer-found.html post #7.

When you get to the Java site's installation page you will see an option for Offline installation. This option is always safer. Offline installer means you download the installer to your computer with all the data inside the installer itself. Whereas the online installer means you download just the basic installer which then downloads the data over the internet during the installation process.

LW 5 requires at least Java 1.6 (also called Java 6). LW = LimeWire.

My suggestion would be to:

1. Remove all previous versions of Java using the control panel. Install 64 bit Java 1.6. http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_win64bit.xml

2. Use the Start menu -> All Programs -> LW -> Uninstall.

3. Delete any LW preferences folder you can find: Steps 2 & 3 here Fixes for Limewire (click on blue link)

4. Run Crap Cleaner

5. Download & run this version of LW: Download ‘Other’ version & simply unzip & use!

* If LW has same message that it cannot find Java, then remove the 64-bit Java & install the 32-bit Java instead. ;)

Thanks for answering..but...geese....it took so long to get all this on here and now someone tells me to re-uninstall,,and ...reinstall???It did not work last time??

How do I tell if it is "64 bit" or whatever else???bbdbbd aka barbie

bbdbbd October 6th, 2009 10:07 AM

I read one of the links you sent me...BTW go to Control panel, find the Java control panel & check the options. Under Java -> View, it should say which version is installed & if it is enabled or not. It needs to be Java 1.6 for LW 5.

I am running winxp I do not have a "java control panel", under my control panel thre is nothing that shows the coffee cup..nothing....java...

I do not know how to use the offline installer,,I do not know the first step even..I downloaded that a long time ago..tried to use it..no luck...so,,,do I have to be offline to use an offline installer???

Peerless October 6th, 2009 10:37 AM

windows xp eh?

and just how old is the install of the OS?...I'm betting a backing up of data, reformat of the drive and a clean install will cure your problems...

no...the offline installer has everything needed for the install...the online installer actively works with your machine 'live' as it were...if you have any sort of issues during the install (firewall, packet analysis, etc) the install might be corrupted..

I for one always use offline installers when possible (erm..except for windows update..too much of a hassle to identify the updates, search for them, download them, then install them)

bbdbbd October 6th, 2009 01:50 PM

dear peerless,,this is hopeless aka bbdbbd
thanks for answers The operating system install is 6 to 7 months old..I had a computer man do it..got a big 1T on it now...He Ghosted it all over..came back like this..he knows definitely what he is doing..he said for active X he does not use Java/Sun..he uses , I think he said "microsoft something or another?" Maybe you know the name of it????????So maybe he purposefully deleted mine..as long as you have JRE of some sort as I did there should not be any problems..? but I downloaded that is DOWNLOADED not installed about 5 or 6 versions of JRE and of Limewire about 3 or4..I have only a Control Panel..in add remove pgms...it shows some of these pgms..but they DO NOT INSTALL..remember I just told you downloaded and not installed? It is a brand new hd...so??Well,all I know when I first got this back after a month or so I tried to start LW and thats when it all began..it kept giveing me error1327.(that is from Java / Sun( an install shield problem I guess. I did all and everything they told me to no avail...the error kept saying " " " Invalid Drive H""""??????????????? H???? Hmmmm? Well, I had used 3 different back up EXTERNAL drives for copying things I did not want to lose...that one of them was drive H...but what I had on there, I rehook it up usb to pewter..and try to install in C drive and it still still still will not do it??I am so confused..and...STILL no answer to how I tell if this is a 64 bit? or whatever ???whaever else it could be????which is which and what is the difference???

do you have administrator abilities?

i.e. are you using the machine on a sub account which is probably restricted?

I'd just take it back to this bigshot who did the machine for you...sounds like he knows everything..roflmao

Lord of the Rings October 6th, 2009 04:21 PM

Other releases Get LimeWire for Your Platform - Lime Wire for the Other version you PM'd me about. Choose Other Systems. Unzip & use.

Alternatively, offline installer http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe

Probably due to one of your security softwares. You will need to put limewire site on your safe list (could be your firewall security, could be your windows security, could be your 3rd party security softwares. Also in your browser safe list. Both links work for me using two different browsers.
