Sounds like an issue with the Java.
Uninstall LW and all Java versions on your computer. Go here:http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp and download the JRE offline installer 1.5.0_07.
Install it and then re-install LW and see if it works.

I assume that you have a normal standard 32 bit plattform, rather than a hightech 64 bit one....
So, look at my screen shots.

I'm having the same problem with my computer, but reinstalling Java isn't doing anything. I've downloaded new Java JREs from 2 different sites and I've deleted LW completely and reinstalled it several times, but nothing works.

foolofthehill June 22nd, 2006 11:23 PM

The normal procedure would be to uninstall LW and uninstall all versions of Java from your system, then install the JRE version of Java (1.5.0_07) with the offline installer and then re-install LW.
;)

I did exactly that but LW still won't run. I'm guessing something else is wrong with my comp that I don't know about yet, but I appreciate the help.

foolofthehill June 22nd, 2006 11:43 PM

It is possible that some anti spyware program or anti virus program prevents LW from starting up (some see LW as threat, though it isn't one).
Have you checked on that??
;)

Actually, I just got it to work by right clicking it and disabling visual themes (under preferences>compatablity). I haven't had to do it to any older versions of LW, but it has worked on a few other programs before. Still not sure why it works though.

mine isn't opening either tried removing java and limewire and installing them again and turning off my antivirus software but I still have had no joy

foolofthehill June 23rd, 2006 08:00 AM

What version of Java and LW??
Did you uninstall all Java version before installing with the JRE offline installer??
;)

jimmyjames June 23rd, 2006 08:07 AM

Deleted everything off then did as you posted earlier installed Java offline and then limewire

jimmyjames June 23rd, 2006 08:10 AM

lw 4.12.3 and jnse 5.0 update 7

foolofthehill June 23rd, 2006 08:14 AM

I assume that you got your LW (you didn't answer my question about the versions) from the official LW website?!:
http://www.limewire.com/

Maybe your pc doesn't like the Java. You could try to install a previous version of it:
http://java.sun.com/products/archive/

Since you've read through my posts here, I guess you've checked as well any interference possibility by antivirus and or spyware programs?!
;)

jimmyjames June 23rd, 2006 11:27 AM

limewire version 4.12.3 and java j2se runtime environment 5.0 update 7
