decided to try again and its still not working

Some months ago i downloaded limewire and i got the same problem that i also had with Kazza - everything starts ok - it connects fine

then as soon as the screen opens it closes again - just minimises so the programe is still open and displaying an icon in the bottom right hand corner

BUT if you try to reopen it - it opens then closes straight away

I gave up and removed limewire (and kazza) from my computer - but i have now decided that i want to get to the bottom of this as i want to download some music

Any help would be greatfully recieved

thanks
Helen

Bear Diag?

AaronWalkhouse July 24th, 2006 12:59 AM

It was built to help diagnose these types of problems for BearShare but works
for anything in Windows.

Sorry! It appears that BearShare is not correctly installed on your system.

This may be due to other peer-to-peer file sharing software overwriting important information.

This may also be due to rogue anti-spyware incorrectly giving a false positive detection on BearShare. (The beta tester version of Microsoft anti-spyware is one example)

You should re-install the latest version of BearShare to fix this.

This program will now exit

Hoo boy! Have you got problems! :D

What you have is 256 megs of memory overfilled with about 651.7 megs of
software. No wonder your windows are closing themselves.

Get a fresh copy of Hijackthis from here: http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

Run it and push "Do a system scan and save a log file" then post it here.
I'll pick a bunch of things for you to put a check mark on.

For starters uninstall the Windows Defender software. Not only does it take up
too much memory, it also interferes with LimeWire and always has tried to
delete it even before Microsoft bought it from the original developer.

Also, if you still have that Etomi software, uninstall it too.
It is probably interfering with LimeWire.

Run Hijackthis again, click "Do a system scan only" and put check marks on these items:
(If you uninstalled Windows Defender and etomi then those items should already be gone.)

Now press the "Fix checked" button and reboot. Your computer will seem much faster already.
LimeWire might work better but if not, there's probably a little more cleaning up to do.

Memory prices are really cheap right now. See if you can get another gigabyte
for your computer. The specific type is probably "400MHz DDR - PC3200".
The parts guy will know what that means.

Go to download.com and download ccleaner [i recomend this to everyone] and install it make sure you don't tick the cookie box tho and go on windows run the cleaner delete selected files and do the same again but for aplications then go on issues and press scan delete files and don't back up to registry then it should be free of all the junk you have collected. It wouldn't do any harm to run a spyware scan.an anti-virus scan and then defrag then you will have a nice clean computer.
