Error message when downloading. I REALLY need your help!!

"This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." This comes up shortly after I launch the installer, after I select the language and everything. I've read other threads that have a link to http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl....shtml?msvcr71 for downloading the .dll file or whatever. Anyways, since it's a Zip file, when it downloaded and I opened up the folder, I hit "Extract Files". Then it said that Windows couldn't open it because it was in use by other programs or applications or whatever, and that editing or modifying it could damage my computer. Then I hit OPEN anyways and it said that Windows couldn't identify which program runs it or something. So. I was stuck.

Then I read the Readme and it said for help opening zip files go to www.winzip.com and download the program. Well, I'm not going to waste $30 on it.

Sooo. Can anybody help me out here? Does anybody know an alternative way I could open the file with? THANKS SO MUCH.

Get http://www.warp2search.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4139 TUGZip same as winrar but FREE. It does all winrar & winzip can do. Perhaps you should close all applications before opening the zip file. I needed to do something similar (downld a .dll file but didn't have any complications.) Perhaps a reboot will help (close off all other apps.) Or even boot into safe mode.

Thanks so much! You're a lifesaver. Well, at least, I HOPE you are. I gotta try that. Thanks.

Okay, I downloaded TUGZip 3.4, and I downloaded the .dll file again. TUGZip automatically opened to show it. I clicked OPEN, and it said "There is no default application assigned to the file that you want to open. Do you want to view it instead?" So I hit YES and just a bunch of random characters showed up.

So then I right clicked on it and Extracted the files to My Documents, and everything seemed to be okay. Now...can I just download LimeWire again? Or am I missing a step somewhere?

You need to put that .dll file where it was missing in your system files. After that then reinstall LW. I would recommend installing the "Offline" LW version. If still problems then downld the "Other" version listed at the bottom of the downloads list & just unzip & use.

How do I find out where the .dll file is missing in my system files?

AaronWalkhouse July 24th, 2006 12:34 PM

There were instructions in the zip with the dll file, weren't there?
They usually remember to put instructions in there.

No, I don't think there were. I'll check again.

How do I find out where the .dll file is missing in my system files? I tried downloading the offline version of LW again and the same error message came up.

Argh, this is driving me NUTS.

Most of my .dll files are here C:\WINNT\system32 except for those that are a part of the program package.

.xx[0]h July 24th, 2006 03:19 PM

I tried searcing for C:\WINNT\system32, and this came up: C:\WINNT refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly insterted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location."

What the heck?! Please help...
