Fatal Error

I've probably tried to install Limewire around 30 times now. I've installed, reinstalled, updated Java, and ran that test thing. Limewire downloads ok and I have a high speed connection but everytime I go to run it the small box pops up like its going to run but Java pop's up saying there's been a fatal error with the installation or as the box says "corrupted" installation. Here's the details on the error. Any help would be much appreciated. :)

LimeWire version 4.12.6
Java version 1.5.0_08 from Sun Microsystems Inc.
Windows XP v. 5.1 on x86
Free/total memory: 687904/4128768

Did you install Java using the offline installer?
Try with the offline installer, then go back & verify the installation.

Once the Java's installed, then install LW using it's offline installer

I would personally try this one, uninstall limewire, uninstall JRE, uninstall or JRE Updates (in that order). If it doesn't prompt to restart computer, reboot anyways. Reinstall limewire, it should install JRE with setup installer.

The reason it does this is because you could have a corrupted JRE or corrupted JRE update, however there are two other reasons which might cause this error to occur and these are:
a) Installed to specific location other than the default location
b) Multiple JRE updates installed.

Of course, with Java when you do a JRE update, it doesn't overwrite the previous version. Some applications do this, others will just overwrite the previous version. However, it's recommended to uninstall previous versions before installing new versions of software. This is because most applications tend to have problems if you install them over the top of older versions of software.

Still not working

I did everything Dreamtech said, and still same old problem. I know it's not the connection either because my roomate and others in the building use it. Anymore advice?

Did you try changing compatibility mode of LW to either windows 2000 or win NT. ie: right-click the program & choose that option. Also, try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

It's definitely a Java problem that's showing. A failure of Java to load properly.

I switched it to 2000 and it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!

Good to hear! :) Yes for some reason it "sometimes" seems to fix the fatal error problem. Noticed that last year. ;)
