 The chat function in limewire is very not reliable. First both users need to have LW configured properly and have chat enabled. Then both need to have enough slots/bandwidth available for chat. Then both need to be sitting in front of their computer. Then if your lucky you will be able to chat. Try following the link in LOTR's post in this thread: Help in Chatting Someone. Or search the forums for more info.
