Stops Installing at Steps 6 and 7

I've downloaded limewire, but then when i go to open it, it asks if i want it in english, what internet i use, if i want it to start automatically and stuff like that. but when it gets to the point (steps six and seven) that i should take down all of my firewalls, there is no button to press on the window to go any further than that. i tried to just let limewire load still, because it was loading the whole time and seemed like it would load. but it didnt even after almost an hour. so i'm not quite sure what to do because i cant get past the point where it wants the firewalls down, which i have done. i took them all down and then intstalled it, to see what would happen, but the same thing happened. so i'm not quite sure what to do!
any help would be apprectiated. i really wanna get some songs off of there!
thanks!

Uninstall LW and all Java versions on your system. Reboot and then download the JRE offline installer of the newest Java version from here:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
Install it and reboot again, then reinstall LW.

Same problem

Hello,
I've the same problem but I have already the last version of JRE. I don't understand why it doesn't work.
Please help me,
Thanks.

foolofthehill October 9th, 2006 08:59 PM

The question is how you have installed the newest version. The way I have explained? If so, then you''' have to give us some more information about what happens exactly that causes you a problem. Otherwise we have to use our cristal ball to figure it out........

My crystal ball is broken.

Not the same way

I haven't installed the newest version like you said. I tried but my computer refused to delete it. So I install the newest version before uninstalling the other one.
I hope you understand my english because I don't speak very well.
Thank you.

foolofthehill October 10th, 2006 10:04 AM

The question is, would you be able to uninstall it now? Then reboot, then reinstall? Of course, while uninstalling there should be NO program running that uses Java. I also reckon uninstalling LW as well. And then rebooting and then starting with Java installation, rebooting, LW installation, rebooting again...

I tried again and I succeeded to install it exactly like you explained. But it still doesn't work. My firewall autorizes limewire to conect so I don't understand why it doesn't work.
Thank you

Guess we have to clear something my friend. You posted into the thread of Western Moon who said:

So I assumed that you also have a problem to get LW opening the same as Western Moon's problem. Now you post this here:

Thank you

As I understand it, you can open LW just fine, but you have a small brickwall in front of the globe and you cannot connect to the network, right ??????
If this is the case, read here how to configur the firewall properly (connection problems -click first):
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=51361

Trashimat October 11th, 2006 08:31 AM

I can conect to the web.
My problem is when I start Limewire for the first time, the configuration assistant starts and ask me my language , my conection, ... and at one moment it says that if I have firewall alerts I have to configure my firewall. But I don't have any alerts and my firewall autorizes Limewire.
I have also a window that says that limewire is conecting to the server and it seems to load. But it doesn't stop to load and nothing happen.

foolofthehill October 11th, 2006 08:39 AM

Does Limewire open completely and if yes, do you see a small brickwall in front of the globe in the left bottom corner of the LW window??
:Smilywais:

Trashimat October 11th, 2006 08:46 AM

I don't know.
There is a green window this the limewire logo and "connecting to the HTML server".

foolofthehill October 11th, 2006 08:59 AM

Could you make a screeshot of the window and post it here?
(Press the button "Print Screen SysRq", which is right above the Enter button of your keyboard, when the LimeWire window gets stuck). Then open MS Paint and click edit>paste. Cut the LW window out of the picture using the rectangle. Then open a new MS Paint document and go to edit>paste. Then save it as a gif or jpg file and then post here agin attaching the picture to your post.

But before, try two other things. First, close LW completely and then right click the LW icon on your desktop. Go to Properties>Compatibility and change the Compatibility Mode to Windows NT or Windows 2000. Then try to open LW again.

If that doesn't work, uninstall LW via START>Programs>LimeWire>Uninstall. Then download the installer exe for LW that you will find via this link:
http://www.limewire.com/LimeWireSoftOther

Install it and see whether that will solve the problem.....

Trashimat October 11th, 2006 09:19 AM

Thank you so much!
I changed the comptatibility to NT and now it works.
Thank you really!!!!!

You're welcome....

Still not working

Umm, I did everything you said, to a "T", but it still didn't work. On the site it also says Windows Offline Installer, so when the first one didn't work, I used that one, but it still didn't work. If LW doesn't work, would you recommend any other music downloaders?
This might also be useful information, I'm not sure, but when I go to download it, it says that I have to save it to disk. I don't know why that happens, but whenever I download anything on the computer it says that, even if I don't have a disk in the drive. Don't know if that might help or not!
Thanks again. :Smilywais:

foolofthehill October 14th, 2006 03:59 AM

With disk it means your Hard Disk Drive (also refered to as HDD).
For me it is not comprehendable why you should not be able to download the offline installer onto your HDD.........because that's exactly what you should do. It is always better to install any program using the offline installers rather than the online installation process.....
Is there any error message appearing when you try to do so?? If so, could you tell us what it says ??
:Smilywais:

Western Moon October 15th, 2006 09:26 AM

There isn't an error message that comes up. It just goes to the window where it says to take down the firewalls on your computer, but there is no button or anything to press to go beyond that screen and LW doesn't finish loading. I really don't know what the problem is either.
