Problems on installation - help needed

I have searched through an awful lot of threads and can't find a problem like mine, so I am asking for any advice.

I have downloaded the Limewire installer, i try to install it, and everything is fine to a point. I have gone through everything, it is on my desktop and all seems fine, i click on it and it comes up with the language select etc, i go through all of this and get to the scanning the hardisk part. It starts scanning and then the box disappears, no error message, it just disappears - and if i try clicking on the limewire on my desktop it takes me back to the language select part and again when i get to the scanning hardisk it just disappears.

Now, I have got rid of and reinstalled the J2SE(TM) Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9 offline version, as well as the Limewire offline install version - and retried the process, but the same happens everytime.

Help would be greatly appreciated - and I am using Windows XP and have plenty of GBs of memory and a decent RAM, so I cannot see that as a problem.

Many thanks,

Hmmm, try installing it with out scanning you hard drive for files, it's one of the options during the setup. See if that helps.

If not try these suggestions. Try deleting the limewire preferences folder(while LW is closed) point 2 & 3. Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should!

Then try these again. Remove your current Java & then reinstall JRE using the offline installer here

Then reinstall LW using it's offline installer

Ok, I have deleted the preferences file, and done all the other steps on the LW fixes page, and still it does the same thing..........anymore ideas???

Are you running any anti-spyware that might see LW as a threat? Some of AOL's software is known to interfere with LW.

no, i dont have aol- i have some antispyware stuff but it is disabled....

Maybe you need to run the installer exe in a different compatibility mode. Rightclick the LW installer icon and choose Properties>Compatibility. Change the mode to Windows NT (or Windows 2000). That might help...

Andy,

Can you run a dxdiag.exe report and paste it into a new reply? If we can see exactly what hardware and software you're running it might help people find a fix or a clue to what is causing your particular malfuntion.

Alternative P2P software: Shareaza, RShare, Freenet, I2P, GNUnet and Entropy. There are others. Best thing to do is take a look at all of them and see for yourself which one will meet your need the best.
