Ok, I've researched and still can't find the answer.

So here goes. I have a Creative Zen Nano 1gb mp3 player that I use for working out. When I first started out, I could go to LW find a song, download it then drag it to my MP3 player. Easy, right? However, now when I try and do the exact same thing, I get: "The directory or file cannot be created" message. I'm pretty certain I am doing nothing different than before but....Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

go directly to your downloads folder and do the dragging and dropping from there

Peerless November 2nd, 2006 12:52 PM

or....the player is full (actually this is probably the problem)

Silky Johnston November 2nd, 2006 12:55 PM

Yeah, I looked to see if that might have been the problem and it shows it is not full but still has plenty of space left...Funny thing is, this morning I was able to get 2 songs to transfer to my player but none after that..very bizarre..

Peerless November 2nd, 2006 01:09 PM

hmmm....well the only time I have seen that error message is when my player is full, and I have the same exact player...

the fact you got 2 songs to transfer is not really odd per se, as those might have been the 2 needed to fill it up....try deleting a few songs again, and then emptying the trash can in windows and see what happens

Silky Johnston November 2nd, 2006 01:16 PM

i'll try it..what the hell?? sure can't hurt. thanks and I'll let you know what I found..

Silky Johnston November 2nd, 2006 01:22 PM

Well, i'll be d@mned. I erased 1 song and tried it and it did download. hmmm...It still says I have alot of space left?? How many songs are you able to get on yours? It shows I still have 471.3mb space left. 998mb total. Does this sound right to you??? I mean I should be able to get a few hundred more songs on there shouldn't I?

Peerless November 2nd, 2006 01:28 PM

it all depends upon the size of the mp3s...the device as far as I know is only limited by its total storage space....

Silky Johnston November 2nd, 2006 02:07 PM

I'll need to look into this closer and see if I can save space some how by downloading in a different format. I really appreciate your help as I was racking my brains trying to figure out what happend.

Many mp3 players can only fit so much on the root directory

Erase a few songs then make a folder or two and put the songs in there. This is not a guess. You were just unlucky to not find the right threads here

And BTW I think it's incredible that the makers don't include this in the manual on the first page

Cool, thanks Sleepless.

Peerless November 3rd, 2006 05:15 AM

wow...dunno how many tunes this dood has, but I've go mine pretty much full and haven't run into that limitation...yet, I guess...

Sleepless November 3rd, 2006 03:55 PM

Can't remember the exact number of files that will fit on the root on these players. It's in one of the other threads.

Of course people who sort their music will never know this problem even exists ;)

Peerless November 3rd, 2006 04:05 PM

well...the online literature (yeah, mine is MIA) says up to 500 songs...and says nothing about any other limitations..

Sleepless November 3rd, 2006 04:09 PM

The Creative Zen has a way lower number than that for the root. Like 180 or something. That's why he needs that little folder trick. Like you can put 180 files or 2-3 folders with 180 in each.

Missed that. Maybe he hit that 500 limit then. I must be mistaken with the name of the player.

Peerless November 3rd, 2006 04:35 PM

actually..I'm not arguing your statements but pointing out what the online literature says....the average size of my mp3s is ~6MB, so using that 'model' that's about 170 tunes..which is below the threshold of 180 you mention...if you are correct in that figure, then the reason I haven't seen it is because I haven't reached it yet!

Peerless November 3rd, 2006 04:44 PM

welp...just dug up the printed manual, and have looked through the manual on the included CD...nada re:limitations as are being discussed here..

now..that's not to say they don't exist and Creative is 'covering it up'..
