I'm behind a firewall Hi, i use LimeWire to download mp3's at home, but i can't get it to work at the university. I have done some research about the network and i have found out that it uses firewall and an advanced cencorship, so we cannot use anything else but internet explorer. I have tried all sorts of software to bypass the firewall and i have managed to connect LimeWire using Tor, i can even search for files but when i try to download the file it tries to connect but it fails after few minutes. The way i understand it, "tor" creates outgoing connection so maybe the problem is with the incoming ports (i think :::)))))). If anyone has been in the same situation please advise, the internet connection at the university is great, so i can use the bandwidth. Any tip will be helpfull. Thanks. |
Talk to an IT Admin person, he/she may open a port for you so you can use your Uni's system. |
It won't do me any good. I cannot find the Admin (it is a huge campus, plus they wont allow me to do so). Is there any way to check if there are any open ports on the network, if so, how can i configure LimeWire to use them. P.S. Thanks for the fast reply. |
