Please help: I think I've been scammed!

(This is my sisters profile) Does anybody know how to cancel an order. my sister downloaded limewire today and got charged 15$ for sumin she didnt want. Now she just wants to cancel limewire and get all of the money back. How do you do that and/or what is the customer service number for limewire. Any help would be great

Grandpa November 5th, 2006 02:04 PM

If she bought it from the official site it was $18.88 but as far as I know there is no way to get your money back. There is a free version of LimeWire to try before you buy so there is a no refund policy.

And before you get mad at me I am just a volinteer here on the forum.

All Sales Are Final!

There is a free version of LimeWire for you to try before buying PRO, so we will not issue refunds for LimeWire PRO software purchases. We do not have sufficient support staff to process refunds manually for such a large user base. Therefore we are making it very clear up front: no refunds for any reason. This includes but is not limited to cases where LimeWire PRO performs poorly on your computer.

Thank you for supporting LimeWire!

NetSpyProtector Option - Protect yourself from malware for a total of 14.88 $ USD any one know what that is

Lord of the Rings November 5th, 2006 02:08 PM

Check the browser history & see exactly which site she paid at. Was it one of these? Known Scam Sites (click on link)

If it wasn't http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml then scammed.

edit: I saw you post after my edit ... you have been scammed. Only scam sites offer extras.

Check the latter pages of the link I gave above, & also this thread for advice for getting your money back get your $$$ BACK!!! (music members)

kate59601 November 5th, 2006 02:13 PM

at least its not my money

Lord of the Rings November 5th, 2006 02:15 PM

Check my post about browser history & see which site it was. At least we can warn other people. ;) :) There's still a good chance she can still get her money back.

Especially directly if it's within a 7 day period.

kate59601 November 5th, 2006 02:21 PM

she got charged directly from the limewire sign up

kate59601 November 5th, 2006 02:24 PM

she signed up at the limewire site and the email that they sent her said she got had limewire basic and then that NetSpyProtector Option was also there

You know what's funny, you guys go charging around the internet handing out your credit card details like it was confetti, not even knowing who you’re throwing these details at. And then you are surprised when you get ripped-off or your identity gets “jacked”.

Your sister got ripped off by a scam site, not LW, that specialises in ripping off the naïve or greedy, so her next step should be to contact her CC company, confess that she got ripped off, and as most CC’s have an anti-fraud policy, she should get her money back.

Next time she goes looking for stuff to buy on the internet she should do some research to make sure she is dealing with a legitimate company.

PS. It might be a good idea to get her credit cancelled because she may find that she ends up paying an indefinite monthly subscription to her non-existent lifetime club.

You can get a refund

You can get a refund if you do it within 30 days. call For credit card billing questions please call 877-354-0013.

I just signed up today and I have the pro. I paid 29.95 for the unlimited Pro membership and got the movies option free. A special offer. Right on the site it said you have 30 days to try for free.

I copied this right off the site:

I thought the software was free. Why am I being asked to pay?
The software is free. You are paying for unlimited technical support and so we can run the website. If unsatisfied, for any reason, you can cancel your membership within 30 days for a full refund.

Hope that helps!

If you bought through www.my-music-now.com They have an option for that spyware program to purchase for an additional 14.95.

Lord of the Rings November 7th, 2006 07:02 AM

I think you'll find you didn't actually get pro anyway from that site. But good advice for others so thanks.
(it if is pro, then it will say on the program after you open it. Else go to Help menu & choose About LW.)

capron2006 November 7th, 2006 10:20 AM

yes it is pro but i can not get support. I need support because I can not get the limepro player to open. It keeps opening my windows media player and my media player all of a sudden can not open any of the files. When i click support It keeps saying that i do not have a recognized limewirepro email address. I have PRO! I checked! i think i am going to call and cancel if I can not get help!

Now I am just getting a voice mail!

capron2006 November 7th, 2006 01:15 PM

I was scammed!

Apparently allcoolmusic.com and my-new-music.com are a bunch of scam artisits. Im not sure how they did it but I bought the membership from them for 29.99 and I have the pro version but I can not get any technical support. According to limewire they sold me what they give you for free but that does not make sense either because how did I get the pro version then?????? And who cares who i bought it through, I have the pro version why cant limewire see that I bought it and give me tech support? I can not get allcoolmusic to refund my money, well they are not answeing my voice mails or emails. I see them reading them because I get the read receipts on my computer. I guess I will just wait and then when it posts to my bank account I will put in a dispute and have the bank deal with there scam. They todl me I was downloading some mp3shark software and gave me all the instructions for that and then i get Limewire so i am so lost!

Grandpa November 7th, 2006 06:40 PM

Because LimeWire did not get paid for it. Who ever you paid for it probably sold you a pirated version. If it even is Pro.

Your following statement:

And who cares who i bought it through, I have the pro version why cant limewire see that I bought it and give me tech support?
I have to say, is one of the silliest post I have ever seen in this forum.

In your post your readily admit that you spent (gave) your money to a scam site, known thieves. Yet you expect the Limewire org to subsidise you by providing tech support and thus absolving you of any responsibility for your own misguided actions.

If you were in business selling technical products and providing technical support for those products you would not last very long if you also provided support for your products that were stolen or pirated.

Get a grip and follow through on your next action:

Once you have your money back, ditch the pirated LW you got from the scam site, because it is more than likely will contain spyware, and get the proper version from www.limewire.com.
