Searching Problems Why is it that if you search for something, your results include items that don't even have the search word in them? For example, I search for the PG movie "Little Miss Sunshine", and I get items like "Big Tit Mamma" or "Walt Disneys Bambi II". I get like 900 items, and over 90 percent don't have any of the words in the title. Also, what is this length search item? If you want a file over 400M, and search for 400, you get items like 1,000KB. If you assume that the search wants K instead of M, and search for 400000, you get items that are 4000 KB, 10,000 KB etc. |
Searching Problems I had a feeling that noone would answer my problem, because the only honest answer is that Limewire is a piece of garbage |

Searching Problems That is just a cop out, so that you don't have to admit the the LM search engine is not very well designed. I have owned a company that designs databases for almost 20 years, and I know a good search engine when i see one. |

@dennyhayes, the Limewire p2p client is open sourse and so theres no reason for you not to add your expertese to the development.. I have to say that I'm not a developer but know that the search function on a Java p2p client is not the same as Google, and also that in all the time I have been using Limewire, I have of course come up with poor search results, same as everyone, but I have learned to search for suitable terms and to read the difference between good and bad results. I have not btw been aware that it is possible to search for a particular file size. Look ..we've been asking for a decent size filter forever. I'm sure with your expertese you could knock one up for us no problem. www.limewire.org needs you :) @mrbassbone you have clearly done a bit of constuctive looking at the problem and know what the junk filter is for. All I would suggest is that banning ip numbers is a fairly fruitless task as spammers' ip numbers tend to change all the time. The junk flter does however work well once you have "trained" it to do what you want as I hope you have found :) |
