Hello. Im New Here.

I finally got Limewire :yahoo:

Im new here & have no idea how to use Limewire.

I tried to download a song & it didnt work, it turned yellow when I tried to play it in the media player. I did download my first cong before that & it played. Im wondering if the 'T' or 'cable' choosing has something to do with it.

I also have over 5000 songs that I would like to 'share' but I dont know how to offer them.

Can anyone please suggest a place where I can read up on Limewire & how to use it from start to finish.

I understand some of the terminology.

thank you very much Hobo & Birdy, you were both so quick, lol.

I will read up on all the above & get back to you.

I 'think' I figured out how to 'share' my tunes, it says at the bottom of Limewire that I am sharing 5k+ songs.

BBS.

Very good input Hobo, & I understood it, lol.

I didnt know Limewire had it's own media player 'till this morning through the 'Tip Of The Day', (Brilliant idea.) I did manage to put the music through the Windows Media Player 10.

I have downloaded one tune, its the old ****** ***** for the kids. I played it & the sound wasn't the best, but it is an old track.

I downloaded 2 others as I said & when I tried to play it, this came up:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

This I do not understand & I have no idea how to find the answer.

One thing thats in the back of my mind is the useage. Im allowed 500MB, & I dont know how much that is, but I will probably come across it in the info I have to read.

With the sharing, I can figure out how to put some instead of all. I noticed the lag on the computer with all of them there. I don't know what upload is, but I know download can be costly. Does it cost for uploading?

If there is somewhere else I should be posting this, please let me know. In a forum I go to, to learn how to do back-ups, they gave me my own thread, cos I kept getting lost, lol.

Cheers.

I have put all the "A's" from my tunes to share. I will leave them there for a couple of 'Aussie' days. My computer is on in average 12 hours a day.

Sorry, I dont know how I got the letters to go large in the above post, I found the 'edit' button, lol. I'm not sure if I'm game enough to use it again.

Is the following in relation to me not being able to the songs not playing & causes the writing to turn yellow?

==============
The best audio files to download are mp3. You should avoid wma for various reasons, one of which is they often are unplayable. Codecs are a big subject and I'm not an expert but this link has information about them. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=40665.
I would not worry about it now unless you are desparate to open one particular song ...probably easier to re-search and find an mp3 version.
==============

So I should just leave them & not delete? Is there a way I can avoid this type of 'thing' lol.

Oh... &.... if I get out of Limewire, am I still sharing. I need to do other stuff now & I have to get out of it. I dont want to disconnect anybody, lol. I also want to know about chatting, but I will read about that later when I get a grip on the basic's.

Cheers

Thank you for your help

G'nite. :tease:

I'm off fishing now, lol.

:super:

MrsVege November 27th, 2006 12:12 AM

No fish... but I did find out that I've used 1010mb. I'm only allowed 500. I downloaded a site that I thought I wanted, & being use to dial up loading, I didnt think anything of it when it took 8 hours. :bangh:

I can't share at the moment or receive any tunes, though I will be here to find out whats what.

birdy November 27th, 2006 12:21 AM

Who's your ISP? If I go over my limit (iPrimus) I just get booted back to dial-up speed but I can still upload & download...just takes forever.

500 MB isn't much, check if your ISP has a plan with a higher limit...if it's not a huge increase in speed, it might not cost much more than what you're on now.

MrsVege November 27th, 2006 02:31 AM

I changed IP's when I went to Broadband.

I had to get Satelite because I couldn't get anything else other than dial up.

I can't really afford to go any higher with MB's, so I will just have to chill for the next few weeks on my dial up conection while I still have it.

Thanks for trying to help though. :xirokrotima:
