Please help the newbie..... (firewalled & unable to download)

Well, I am all new to this Limewire stuff...... I have downloaded everything, and Limewire opens just fine, except i have the little brick wall in the bottom left corner. So I cannot download any songs......I have read through several other posts and tried a few things, but nothing seems to work. I have McAfee Security on my computer, and made sure that Limewire has access to the internet, this is what it says 'This application has Full Access to the Internet. It is possible for this application to send and receive data with any computer'........... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much, let me know if you

Your brick wall means there's a firewall detected. If it's not coming from a software firewall, it's probably coming from within a modem/router. Check the sticky below for heaps of info:wink:
Connection problems? Check here first!

If you're still stuck, tell us your details. Post #2 of that sticky shows the info that we need!

What happens when you click on a file to download...does it go to the download pane (below the search page) & sit connecting for ages before showing 'need more sources'? Fake files do this & you'll find info about those here:
Fake files showing up in searches

Or...when you click on a file to download, does it just sit there & do nothing (no move into the download pane)? This is usually a license issue & you'll find a fix here:
License (click)

Wow! Thanks for some help so quick! Hmmmm.... I have already checked out the "Connection problems? Check here first!" link.... I feel as if I have done most of that stuff.

I did work a little bit with license issues..... nothing changed.

In LimeWire when I search a song/group, nothing happens. It doesnt bring up anything at all for me to even download. I did click on something and it said that i was not fully connected to the Internet,?!

Here is the info that you had asked for.....
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP

2. What firewalls you have? not for sure?

3. How much ram? 1.0 GB

4. Hard Disk space available? not sure

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) DSL

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? I have a DELL XPS DXP051, its pretty new, I have had it less than a year!

7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? home

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.12.6 1.5.0_09

9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Alltel/Windstream

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

It says Sorry, we couldn't find http://www3.limewire.com:6346/. Here are some related websites:

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.

Hmmmm... dont know if i am or not!?

12. Is this a your 1st try at FW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
This is my very first try! :)

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of FW's interface?

Yep, you bet!

Ok - thats i think thats it! Again, thanks so much for your help! Im not too bad with computers, but this one is tricking the heck out of me!?!?!?

If that test page doesn't load, it means that LW's default port is blocked.

Does your McAfee have a firewall included? Is your XP firewall turned off? If your McAfee security includes a firewall, make sure that the XP firewall is off.

Is home a house, apartment, student accommodation etc? Do you have an external modem or router... are there any boxes that your computer plugs into before the connection in the wall?

Your ISP could be the problem, check Aaron's post below
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?p=202379

If they're blocking, you could try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config will show you LW's listening port number. Change it to 64049 & click Apply. Sorry but there's no guarantee that this will fix things if it's an ISP issue...it's worth a try though:wink:
