Limewire not working now why?why?why?

Hi,
When first installed Limewire, worked great, loved it. Prob is now I cant access, ( loads to 'Loading user intertface')heres circumstances.
* 2 weeks without virus protection incurred 10,367 virus/spyware/malware etc etc
* Limewire stoped working during this time
* renewed Trend Micro virus protection, now all virus gone.
* Limewire no go
* Re-installed Limewire ( both file types that are on offer at off site)
* No go
* Have added exception to Firewall = no go
* Have turned firewall off = no go

Now my issue is I was going to buy Limewire PRO, but if i cant access free version i doubt i will be able to access paid version
Can anyone offer ideas of whats going wrong or things to try
Thank you
Lucas

Try the steps here Fixes for Limewire (particularly step 3)

Thanks for reply, heres results :-
i),,Java update ( messy site they have) downloaded couple of java things, tho i assume as ive had a working version of limewire the Java isnt the issue
ii),,Completed step 2 & 3, Results after reboot :-
iii),,Limewire enters into new user sequence ie,, language type, default folder etc. Interestingly if i try to change to folder the program crashes. anyways i go go right through to 'Finish' and try to log into Limewire it does same as usual ie,, limewire loading screen hits 'loading user interface'

um,,

any other suggestions?

Lucas

The Java you needed was Java JRE ...
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update #
The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.

It might be wise to remove all other versions of Java.

Did you try changing the LW compatibility mode? Sometimes that seems to do the trick for some odd reason.

Can you supply these details please System details - help us to help you (click on link)

Right-clicking the Limewire actual program and going to properties and change compatability setting & choose either win 2000 or NT. BTW try both to see if either will work.

BTW I'm wondering if it might be an idea to reinstall LW. But get the "Offline" installer, not the online recommended one.
Another option is to uninstall it by using the Start menu > Programs > LW > Uninstall. Then get this version Download ‘Other’ version & simply unzip & use!

Tried all forms of LW compatability = no go
Ive re-installed Limewire many time using both ones you mention
Uninstalled way you mentioned, installed 'other' version
added new exception into firewall list
first boot = got to main screen for split second, second try, back to initialising program ( no main screen)
tried steps http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36420 again
no go
turned virus protection totally off
no go

Ps - would i have similar prob with full * purchased* version?

Yes. Normally a selection or combination of the fixes will get over your problem. How about trying this ... set up a new account & try running from there. If it doesn't work then delete that account.

Could try the beta I guess. BTW do you have your graphics card settings for games.

eskai January 13th, 2007 03:11 PM

cool.
What do you mean by set up new account? like windows account?
my graphics card is a 256 mb ATI Radeon card with desktop running at 1360x1024 ( ive tried combinatins lower rez just incase = no go)
I guess the only option i havent tried is remvoing my java, but I stronly dont want to do this cos of the sizes of my java ie

j2se development kit 5.0 280mb
Java web start 2.06mg
Java runtimev1.4.1_02 172mb
j2se runtime update 8 152mb
j2se runetime updat 10 119mb

Whule iam here what is Javas purpose in life ( and can i safely get rid of some of the above without comprimising system operations, ie that runtime updat 8, as i have update 10 would this make 8 obsolete?)

Tried Beta version = no go
I have a theory via the process of elimination
timeline of limewire usage from working to defunct:-
* Limewire working, happy happy joy joy
* Limewire stops working ( 2 weeks later ) displaying same symptons as today
* renewed my virus protection ( of which i discovered 10,367 virus/malware/spyware etc - i dont put all these issues on limewires doorstop, just most, Lesson for all, use virus protection with limwire)
* deleted virus etc
* tried to run limwire , sysmptons are the same

I think during my downloads from limewire ive attracted a malicious program specifically aimed at limewires booting process & installation procedures which is the reason iam having ongoing probs.

Anyways justa thought. Kinda a shame really cos i was thoroughly enjoyinh limewire. Either way I appreciate all your help, will continue to try fixing somehow, and will continue trying any options you may provide
Thank you
