Is your LW connected to the network properly (how many green connection bars do you see)?

If it is, try the advice in the thread below

Did you read the thread? It has instructions for how to delete the preferences folder:rolleyes:
One piece of advice in that thread was to try downloading a magnetmix file. That's why I asked whether you'd downloaded one of those files.
I was assuming you'd read the thread.

bluehawk4355 March 12th, 2007 02:13 AM

i have read all threads and actioned as far as i understand

thanks for your latest thread birdie--- i cannot find where to delete 'preferences ' -- can you guide me please

i have now downloaded one item from 'magnetmixfile' it shows in library and on clicking plays in windows media-- it is now showing on my library list

i tried searchng again and get a message appear ---
'LIMEWIRE IS CURRENTLY CONNECTING TO NETWORK-YOUR SEARCHES MAY NOT RETURN MANY RESULTS UNTIL YOU ARE FULLY CONNECTED'

This quote is post #6 of that Blank Results Page thread, with a link to instructions for deleting the preferences folder. Click on the blue link in the quote box. There's also a sample image included in the instructions, to make things easier to follow. Only use the instructions in point 3...point 2's instructions are for people who've used much older versions of LW. Remember that LW has to be properly closed before deleting the folder. Also remember that it's a hidden folder, so you'll have to show hidden files & folders in order to be able to delete it. All this is covered in the instructions, you'll see when you click on the link.

Your inability to connect at all now could be down to a few things... ISP, software firewall, firewall within router. But we won't be able to help you too much unless we know a few more details. Go back to post # 4 of this thread. You'll see a blue link titled "System details - help us to help you". Click on it. Then you'll see a list of 15 questions. Could you please answer those?

replies to the questionaire re -my system

System details - help us to help you

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.

So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) WINDOWS XP
2. What firewalls you have? KERIO PERSONAL FIREWALL
3. How much ram? 512MB
4. Hard Disk space available? 12% IN USE -TOTAL SIZE
149GB ---- FREE SPACE 143GB

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) BROADBAND

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? BT HOME HUB
NO ROUTER - NO MODEL NUMBER
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? MY HOUSE(BUNGALOW)
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
LIMEWIRE 4.12.11
JAVA 1.5.0_11
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? BT (BRITISH TELECOM)

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens FDCXwhen you go there?

YES I DO THAT --- GOT BLANK WHITE WINDOW --TOP LEFT HAND CORNER SAID ---' YOUR TEST WORKED '------- BEING NOVICE ON PC I DONT UNDERSTAND -----'FDCX' IN YOUR TEXT

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
NOT SHARING CONNECTION -JUST PC AND PHONE ON LINE -- DONT UNDERSTAND P2P

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. i AM NOVICE ON PC AND FIRST TIME ON LW --- NOT PREVIOUSLY DOWNLOADED MUSIC

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?

YES THERE IS A BRICKWALL IN THE ICON -- I HAVE ALSO TRIED DISABLING THE FIREWALL CONNECTION ie turning it off completely - AND THE WALL STILL SHOWS WHEN DISABLED

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342

These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first! but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details.

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth, some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions, or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.

WELL BIRDIE BEING NOVICE THATS THE BEST I CAN DO --- I HOPE I CAN GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED ---THQANKS FOR YOUR HELP SO FAR --- SPENCER

still cannot see how to access ----' preferences' ---- i have looked again at thread 6 -- but it does not tell me about it ---

can you tell me where i can find the link for preferences -- thanks -- i desperately want to get linewire working and if i like it will upgrade to PRO

birdy March 12th, 2007 04:07 PM

Is that link not working for you?

Here's what you have to do...make sure that LW's properly closed. Open My Computer, click on tools > folder options > view. Put a dot in the circle next to show hidden files & folders. Now click apply & ok. Close the box.

Now you're back in My computer. Open local disk (C). Now open Documents and Settings. Now open 'your username'. Now open Application Data. Find the folder called LimeWire. Delete that one.

Have you made sure that the XP firewall is off & that the Kerio firewall is set up to allow LW? Just double check that.
There have been a couple of other people having connection probs with BT recently, maybe they're blocking your connection at certain times of day?

Your Home Hub is a router too;) So, you should have a go at port forwarding...that should get rid of the firewall icon (providing your Kerio is set up properly). Here are the instructions to port forward for the Home Hub.
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...b/Limewire.htm

Go through those slowly & double check things as you go.

It's important to remember that all port numbers have to be the same. Any specific ports allowed thru a software firewall, LW's listening port, port number in LW's 'manual port forward' box & the port forwarded thru a router all must be the same number:)
