sheesh!!! i need help (LW won't install)
 

:bangh: i'm working on xp home edition via a broadband connection and i've never had any trouble with limewire. now all of a sudden i cannot open it at all. when i double click on the shortcut, the initial limewire screen appears/disappears, then, nothing! now i was looking through the forum, and i saw a response for someone else having this problem, stating that if you update your norton virus you have to allow access again. however, the directions said to right click the NPF globe symbol? i dunno if i have an older version, but i don't have a globe symbol, i have a pc symbol with a first aid cross. if anyone can help me with this version of norton, that would be GREAT. i've been without limewire for almost a week now, and it's killing me....

what i've done so far (in the midst of aggravation)
*i've updated limewire to the new beta version
*i've added the limewire http to my exclusions on norton
*i've added the limewire http to my xp control panel/security/trusted sites
*i've rebooted after adding the sites

i dunno what else to do........

Try uninstalling your current version of java while LW is completely shut down. Go to the add/remove programs control panel and uninstall your current version of java. Now download and install J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 11(use the offline installer): Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

If that fails try deleting LW's preference folder with LW completely shut down. See point 3 in this thread: Fixes for Limewire. This will reset all your option settings, so make a note of them first.
