Default Can't open Limewire

I was using an old version of Limewire Basic and was asked if i wanted to update to the new version. I clicked on ok and it removed my old version and installed the new version but now this new version won't open on my laptop. The programme has downloaded and I double click on the Limewire icon but the programme doesn't launch. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times but the same problem keeps happening. I am using Windows XP operating system. Can anyone help????

Try updating to the latest version of Java here (I have this one & LW's working fine): Java SE Downloads (4th one down)
or try this older version, which has worked well for lots of people: Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11
Whichever Java version you use, download the JRE offline installer & Remove any other Java versions before installing another one.

I completed the Java update successfully - version 6 update 3. Lime Wire still will not initialize. I get an "error message" to that effect. My firewall has been set to accept LW (just as it was in previous computer). OS is Windows XP SP2 Media Center Edition 2005 Rollup 2. Nothing I do gets it to initialize. Any more ideas? THANKS
