Limewire not working? (no search results)

I have been successfully using Limewire for sometime with no problems. A couple of days ago it was working fine. Today, the search feature does not return anything on a variety of songs/artists. Is there a problem?

No reply from any one?

I finally re-installed LW and it works. I was not getting "connection" bars at the bottom left hand portion of the page. Also, I temporarily disabled my firewall. One or both worked for me. I logged in today and it was slow to connect but did finally connect.

Good Luck!

Is your LW connected properly (all green/blue connection bars)? If LW's connected, try the fixes below.

1. In LW go tools > options > searching > basic & check whether the 'show license warning' box is ticked. If it does, untick it > Apply > ok...see if that makes any difference.

2. Problems with the search

3. Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within LW's options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things to the way you like them.

If LW's not connected, try the fixes here.
If LW Will Not Connect
If nothing there helps, post back with your system details:)

TR April, what did you do to fix it?

tenenb April 13th, 2008 12:22 PM

I just fixed it (temporarlily ?) by unchecking "connect at startup"... Looks like a bug, doesn't it?

Hiya !

Fact is, there are almost NO programs that you want to have 'start' or 'launch' on Startup !!!

'Protection programs', yes...
Auto-connect to the internet ? NO
Auto-start ANY programs that need an internet connection to load properly ? NO (Accept for protection apps)

Think about this...
You start your computer - Operating System starts to load...
That does NOT mean that your OS has FINISHED loading before >

Some applications start trying to connect in order to perform auto-updates...
A p2p 'client' starts up and tries to connect to hosts...
Same p2p client also tries to start incompleted downloads...
MAYBE your anti-virus/firewall program(s) have started by now... MAYBE NOT...
There is a LOT MORE stuff going on, believe it !
No matter what your desktop may look like after 30 seconds or a minute, you need to wait... Wait at least 3 minutes after starting or restarting... At least !
Then you can use your machine... NOT before !

Boring, huh ?
So is having to deal with viruses and maybe having to do a CHKDSK routine using your original Windows Install disk !
Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) is a common event for those who allow auto-start and auto-connect junk to run on their machines !

NEVER enable 'Connect On Startup' or 'Load On Startup' with ANY filesharing program ! ;)

It is an absurdity that such an option is even offered... :shoot:
