Limewire will not connect

I've recently got a new computer with Windows Vista installed. I previously had Windows XP and never had a problem connecting to Limewire.
I have downloaded Limewire several times, read numerous posts with suggestions for solutions yet I have still had no luck. I dont have any programs that conflict with limewire, I only have avg virus protection, I have allowed Limewire and Gnutella through my firewall, and also allowed them both through the port in my modem. I have even gone to the extent of turning my firewall completely off and still nothing...

Please can someone give me some idea of what may be going on?

It sounds to me like a router issue.

Is the old computer still connected to the same router? If yes, then your new computer cannot use the same connection or listening port. Routers seem to reserve them for each computer & each program. eg: if LW on the old computer is using port 6346, then LW on the new one should use a different port such as 64049.

There is a chance you may need to port forward your router for the LW on your new computer. That's why I am asking for extra information above. :)

I had the same problem and found this answer somewhere in these forums. It worked and it's dead easy. Go to C drive, all users, your name, look for limewire folder, open it, find a file called gnutella.nte and delete it. (close limewire first). Restart limewire and hopefully you'll be ok.

Hey there Buckie-or anybody who would know--read your advice on how to get Limewire to connect by going into the Cdrive and following your steps--one huge problem--my computer skills are awful and I suck--how do you get to that Cdrive thing? I havent got a clue how to do that. Ive used Limewire for a couple of years and never had a problem connecting until I updated their latest version and now I cant get any connections with them> Please help if you can --appreciate it much--thx Debbie

Try these suggestions first: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html

If still no good then get an older version such as either LW 4.16 or 4.12: LimeWire - OldVersion.com

I'm using Windows XP. This is what you do.From the stsrt menu open my computer, then 2C2 drive, then documents and settings, then your username, then the limewire folder, then delete gnutella.net.

Read post #5 of this thread.

My advice to anyone not connecting is try this first 'cos it's easy and often solves the problem. Here's the instructions for Windows XP.

Start, My Computer, Local disc C, Documents and settings, your name. Look for the limewire folder and open it. Find the gnutella.net file and delete it. That's it. Now try to connect.

I am having the same problem, but I don't have that gnutella.net file. I am running the newest version on Vista, and it just constantly says it is trying to connect. When I run searches I get no results.
