Limewire will not connect I've recently got a new computer with Windows Vista installed. I previously had Windows XP and never had a problem connecting to Limewire. I have downloaded Limewire several times, read numerous posts with suggestions for solutions yet I have still had no luck. I dont have any programs that conflict with limewire, I only have avg virus protection, I have allowed Limewire and Gnutella through my firewall, and also allowed them both through the port in my modem. I have even gone to the extent of turning my firewall completely off and still nothing... Please can someone give me some idea of what may be going on? |
System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) It sounds to me like a router issue. Is the old computer still connected to the same router? If yes, then your new computer cannot use the same connection or listening port. Routers seem to reserve them for each computer & each program. eg: if LW on the old computer is using port 6346, then LW on the new one should use a different port such as 64049. There is a chance you may need to port forward your router for the LW on your new computer. That's why I am asking for extra information above. :) |
I had the same problem and found this answer somewhere in these forums. It worked and it's dead easy. Go to C drive, all users, your name, look for limewire folder, open it, find a file called gnutella.nte and delete it. (close limewire first). Restart limewire and hopefully you'll be ok. |
help! cant connect hey Buckie 0r anybody can you help? Hey there Buckie-or anybody who would know--read your advice on how to get Limewire to connect by going into the Cdrive and following your steps--one huge problem--my computer skills are awful and I suck--how do you get to that Cdrive thing? I havent got a clue how to do that. Ive used Limewire for a couple of years and never had a problem connecting until I updated their latest version and now I cant get any connections with them> Please help if you can --appreciate it much--thx Debbie |

If still no good then get an older version such as either LW 4.16 or 4.12: LimeWire - OldVersion.com |

My advice to anyone not connecting is try this first 'cos it's easy and often solves the problem. Here's the instructions for Windows XP. Start, My Computer, Local disc C, Documents and settings, your name. Look for the limewire folder and open it. Find the gnutella.net file and delete it. That's it. Now try to connect. |
I am having the same problem, but I don't have that gnutella.net file. I am running the newest version on Vista, and it just constantly says it is trying to connect. When I run searches I get no results. |
Are you sure ? It's part of how limewire runs. At least it is on the latest version of limewire pro. Try finding it with search or whatever vista calls it. When you find it delete it. When you reload it makes another copy. Until I found this solution from another furum user I'd tried allsorts. I even took out Norton and Spybot ! Believe me, if it worked before the answer is likely to be much simpler. Th eboffins from limewire pro help sent me pages of gobbledygook suggesting solutions which involved brain surgery on my router. Total nonsense. |

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html will at least show how to find the LW Preferences folder .. so find the gnutella.net file inside it. :) |

I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO CONNECT TO LIMEWIRE SINCE IT UPGRADED TO THE 4.186 VERSION. SO I CAME HERE, READ BUCKIES FIX, DELETED THE GUTNELLA FILE, JUST LIKE HE DESCRIBED, AND THAT FIXED IT. I AM NOW CONNECTED, I CAN SEARCH FOR SONGS AGAIN, AND AM SHARING FILES AGAIN. THANK YOU BUCKIE! YOU DA MAN! RAZZELL2:aweof::aweof::aweof::aweof: |
Still nothing Quote:
I have tried all of those things and am still not finding a gnutella.net file anywhere. I searched the 'Everywhere' option, showing all hidden files and folders and everything. Any other ideas? I've even tried going back to older versions and no luck. |
how long duz it take 4 it 2 connect afterwards? |
LimeWire Connect It connects quick now, I found the problem. I didn't have the latest version of Java loaded. Once I updated that and restarted the computer it works great. |
depeat...did you find that gnutella file that buckie was talking about? and remove it? thats what i did. i have xp, not vista, but i had no trouble finding the file...or the dll or whatever it is. and as soon as i deleted it and reopned limewire, i was connecting at the speeds i was accustomed to. and, when i restarted the program i went back to the same destination, in the limewire folder, and i see that another gnutella file is back in there. so it was just a question of having it reload the proper file, or program, or driver or whatever that gnutella thing was. worked for me! thanks a lot buckie. [a forum that actually helped me fix something. i am astounded] (am i even spelling that word right? guntella? gnutella? oh well, y'all know what im trying to say) russell |
I have tried everything that has been posted here to try. I have tried the firewall, downloading a new version of gnutella, going into limewire folder and deleting gnutella. It still does not allow me to connect please help with any other possibilities!!! |
Can anyone tell me where else I can find that gnutella.net file? I don't seem 2 have a Lime Wire file under my name in C file. |
