Limewire has detected a Firewall

I have been using Limewire for a while now, but I recently turned off my home internet, as I'm hardly ever there, plus my city has a plethora of wifi hotspots. The particular place I would like help with is a Library using BlueSocket. I think it may be them with the firewall, and when I asked the nicest clerk I could find, they said it would allow file sharing networks but they couldn't give me any port numbers.

Windows Vista
2ghz duo amd
3gb ram
86gb HD available
Limewire 4.18.3

I set Norton to allow Limewire and also turned it all off just to see if it worked. It didn't. Also checked to make sure the Windows firewall was allowing it through. I turned that one off just to see if it would work. Still nothing.

Edit:
Also, the test page for Limewire ends with:
"The server at www3.limewire.com is taking too long to respond."

I also turned my firewalls back on and adjusted some settings to allow Windows File Sharing and Shared Networks

Obviously you didn't read my post. It's all there except for the modem/router information which I obviously don't know. The library won't give me any information. I am of course in the USA, and yes there is a brick wall there, which means firewall. Leave this one to someone who can read, cheekies :shoot:

UHMMMM I wasnt finished with my post.. sorry .. I was posting that I was having the exact same problems and was giving my details.. but I was unable to finish stating that in my post because of a child calling for me. ALOT of people post in someone else's thread with the same problem so as to NOT double post the exact same problem. BUT i deleted my post and u can enjoy your thread by ur self.. some people are just IGNORANT JERKS!!!

I wasn't being rude. The only part you posted was the rules. How was I to know that it was inadvertently posted by you. I offer my hand in apology.

Help

I can't connect to my limewire (firewall detected) even after I deleted my Mcafee, Nortons etc and disabled my windows firewall. Help me please. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.:(

Me too. I upgraded after being prompted that a new version of Limewire was ready to be installed, but after installation and adding exceptions for Limewire and the two ports, it still refuses to connect. Even if I switch off Windows Firewall there is no difference which makes me suspect about the sequence of steps. I truly regret that I upgraded, wasted an entire evening and close to badmouthing Limewire, so please HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a certain sequence of setting exceptions, quitting any of the applications and do I need to restart (and when)?

Ever so grateful for your advice!!!
Sven

Me three! I have use Limewire for years without a problem until this week. As an attempt to remedy, I upgraded and added exceptions for Limewire and the two ports, it still refuses to connect. Even if I switch off Windows Firewall there is no difference. I too truly regret that I upgraded. It appears that there must be something wrong at Limewire. We need some HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Solution

I have read that to correct this problem one must uninstall limewire as well as the application data found in the users folder. I did this and still could not get a connection. So I tried something else...

Uninstall Limewire
I then did a search through all of my files for limewire (in the search box type in "limewire")
I deleted every file that had to do with limewire including GIF's and the rest of the junk that comes with the program.
After your computer is entirely Limewire free restart your computer.
Once restarted go to the Limewire offiial site and download limewire again.
Run the setup and WALLAH! I now have 5 green bars instead of the red.

Before doing this I tried everything else out and still had the connection problem. This is the only solution that worked for me and I hope it works for you as well. Good Luck!!

Connection problems

I tried deleting everything and restarting the computer. Then I downloaded limewire and still have the same problem. It claims to be detecting a firewall. I just think they trying to make us pay and get the upgrade.

Anybody else find a solution to this problem? :(
