Most p2p sharing networks get spammed with virus'd files. Question is recognising & avoiding such files. File size is a great way to recognise them; Virus thread: Typical virus spam file sizes - Make a note of them (click on blue link to see).
Scan all files after downloading. Keep your AV program up to date with virus definitions. Here's a good page to look at too: WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! (click on blue link)

BTW originally spammers only targeted copyright files. Now they target all files, since they wish the death of p2p sharing. They have no conscience. They are sponsored to do what they do; it's their professional business.

Is there a phone contact for limewire customer service?

Lord of the Rings February 25th, 2009 12:41 PM

They have email support (Pro support does not offer phone support). Just go to their support page & go to the Pro section. Enter your details & contact support. ;)

trojan AGAIN

Geez, I just got 2 more damn viruses from this limewire pro. I even have norton 2009, web root spysweeper, malwarebytes, superantispyware.

I am very carfull of what i'm downloading and mostly only downloading christian music but still getting viruses with my paid pro version.

I used the free version for years and NEVER had a problem, why is it so bad now and how do i check to see if i'm getting my updates??

There's no major differences between pro & basic. erm ... what you download is up to you. Has nothing whatsoever to do with LW. You are the one who makes the choice & presses the download button from the search results. :) Perhaps lots of spammers connected to you recently. Sometimes you can be connected directly to them as ultrapeers.

LW updates do not generally happen that often. Check your preference options to see how you have it set to be notified about updates. :) Don't forget to bookmark your pro download page. :)

trojan virus

how do i get rid of ultrapeers? i see 5 showing on here and also i do not have a "preference" option with limewire pro so how do i know if i got the latest update? well yes i am the one pushing the download button but figure seeing how i could not get a refund due to the many viruses i best get my moneys worth by getting some music. i bought the pro because of the free updates but now i know there isn't any so wont the same mistake again..

Your ultrapeers themselves are not necessarily the culprits, however sometimes people are directly connected to them. It's very difficult to know. Guessing is all. Go to View menu -> Show/Hide Connections. That shows the ultrapeers. If you select the one you've been connected to the longest & press Remove button, then LW will try to find another. However this might take a minute or two so your connection might suffer slightly. You can repeat this process. I would usually only offer this advice for those who were not getting any search results, not for those getting spam. Receiving spam is something everyone gets nowadays. ;) So you do risk removing a good UP.

Probably more to the point would be recognising spam file sizes & blocking wma files from search results. ;)

Tools -> Options ... erm ... not sure where the option is for updates warnings, but it is in there. ;)

The real problem is that the sheer amount of spam results drown out much chance of legitimate results.
