Lord of the Rings has a distinguished reputation

It's a codec issue. We normally recommend using VLC as it has all the codecs built-in so no need to search around for particular codecs to play particularly formatted videos. VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site)

VLC can also play almost all audio formats you will come across.
