Hi, I think it's best to let everyone know that I am fairly computer illiterate and challenged but I've just downloaded limewire 5.5, and it works fine so far.
However, after I downloaded some songs, I realised that they have made shortcuts and now appear on my desktop which has resulted in my desktop looking a mess!! How do I remove them from my desktop without removing them from my library and how do I prevent it from happening again? Pls help!! ![]()

1. What happens if you click on one of these shortcuts?
2. Go to LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Transfers. Where does it say LW is set to download files to? Default location is C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/My Documents I'd suggest it's best to change it back to this location. See LW 5 Download Location - and how to change location if preferred (click on link) Question is how you are getting shortcuts on the desktop if that is what they are. |

Thanks for the prompt reply. I clicked on a shortcut and it opened with Windows Media Player.
I hope this helps you come up with a solution. Or should I try what you have suggested? ![]() Thanks for taking the time. |

Go ahead and do what LotR suggested, so that new downloads go where they belong. What happened after you clicked on the shortcut and WMP opened? (Did the song begin playing?). Your answer may give us a hint as to how you're getting those shortcuts. |

Blackhorse 70V,
Thanks for the reply. I managed to do what LotR suggested and it worked. I changed the file where my downloads are saved, and then I moved the existing downloads and then I restarted my computer and they disappeared from my desktop!! And the fact that I actually managed to find and fix it myself (with all your help) - I'm chuffed!! Thank you all for taking the time to help. |

Many congrats. You are now the master of your machine!
Reminds me of when I wrote my first program. After a few syntax errors and subsets out of range, the damned thing actually worked! Most fun I ever had while wearing clothes. Chuffed? I guess you're not a Yank. It's not that I can't - it's just that I haven't yet learned how. |

No, not a Yank. Believe it or not - a Singaporean living in Europe!!!
Take care.
