Unhappy I'm scared to install

Frankly, I just learned about this new network on TV tonight and visited the site. I think I know what I'm doing but I'm not sure. I downloaded the gnotella program but now I'm concerned about installing it. My chief concern is that I'll expose my entire hard drive and all its contents to anybody and everybody on the network. How can I be sure this won't happen?

Sorry to be so ignorant.

When you install Gnotella, you specify which directories you want to share, and those are the only directories that other people can download files from.

You can also look on the Monitor/View window to see exactly what files you are sharing, so you can check if something is there you don't want. There is an option to remove anything you don't want to share, even if it's in a directory you wanted to share.

Remember that a shared folder includes any and all subfolders within it. So, if your music folder just happens to have another folder containing all your goat porn, well guess what? You're sharing all those files as well.

I remember installing a file-sharing program and I when I started it, I discovered that it's default sharing drive was "C:"

So, yes, always make sure you've configured your shared folders before you use the program online for the first time.
