Unfinished downloads

To help to see what downloads are unfinished, the extension .gnutella could be added to the name of the file until it is finished, like getright does.

That would be a very useful feature.

This would be useful.

I think if I was the one sitting down trying to make a GnutellaNet protocol, I would have thought long and hard about if I should scramble files in transfer, and then in the final stages of the transfer, send the recieviing client the unlock key. File is not usable until recieved fully.

Maybe it's a bit harsh, what you propose here should work too.

What does annoy me though, is that some people seems to have their up and download directory the same place. I.e. they serve not completed downloads.

Feature request:
Disallow this in Gnotella. Check when a user wants to do it, disallow it and give him a friendly why in a textbox. And of course it would be nice if all the GnutellaNet implementations would do the same, right? http://www.gnutellanews.com/forums/smile.gif

What you guys are talking about is totally in conflict with the Gnutella protocol. Also, I saw a suggested feature before about "intelligently" selecting hosts. I've been hearing this since day one, even before I was involved with Gnotella. Fortunately, a solution is imminent. In the next release of Gnotella, v0.7, Gnotella will grab hosts off the host catcher starting from the top (when "Sort" is enabled), so, you can just check the "Sort" checkbox and click on the Hops column to sort by the hops count. Could it be any simpler? http://www.gnutellanews.com/forums/smile.gif

What Paco is writing is not in conflict with any protocol. That has only to do with how the local client handles the local filenaming during and after a download. Nothing to do with the protocol.

What I am writing is not compliant of course. It was meant as a joking thought around what could be done if we still were on day one and the protocol was not yet defined. But we are not.

Selecting hosts from the top of a sorted list is a step in the right direction. Great stuff!

I was responding to your post; didn't mean to cause any confusion. A new version (v0.7) will probably be available by the end of the coming week, unless something terribly bad happens. Stability is our #1 priority. -Yytrium-

Why not put incomplete files in an 'in progress' directory and after completion move them to a different directory.
That way it is clear to the user which files are complete and it might even help prevent the spreading of incomplete files.
