Artifacts in Pushed files
 

When I download MP3's using Gnotella and they are "Push"ed to me, artifacts show up when listening to them. The artifacts are in the form of pops and scratches (kinda hard to explain, but I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about).
This has happened from at least 2 hosts with a total of about 17 files, all having the same sysmptoms. I'm not sure if it's the fault of the other client, Gnotella or GnutellaNet itself.

Good luck on 0.7. When will we be seeing that?

Also, during my Pushed file downloads, they regularly went past 100%, usually to about 105% to 115%. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a different file because all of the songs end normally (i.e. they don't cut off) and it really has no impact (that I can see) on the file itelf, but just thought you guys would like to know.

One last bug (I Promise!!!)
In the Config screen, you can't return more than 255 results to a user.
This obviously stems from the fact that you store the variable in a byte and can't hold more than 255 (0 - 256 = 255 possible variables, VC++ programming pays off). I'm not sure if this was intentional because of the GnutellaNet protocol or if it is just a bug.
I see no reason to return more than 255 results to a GnutellaNet search (which makes this bug moot).

Along the same lines, using the web interface I can't see all of my files. When I hit refresh I always get a different amount of files, too. The amount is usually with in a certain range (approximately 75 - 125). I'm not sure if it's linked to the above problems but it is annoying.

I just had this happen in a non pushed file and I *think* I may have tracked it down (at least for a non pushed file).
Gnotella uses damn near to 80% to 95% of my resources (at least on my setup, a PII-450, Win2K Adv Server, 4 in, 1 out). What happens is that Gnotella will stop responding for a certain amount of time (as recorded by the Win2K task manager and my own observations) and then unfreeze. I belive during these frezzes packets are droped and that is what is causing the artifacts on the MP3's.
My solution (if you can call it that) is to not use VB, but we can argue over that for ages http://www.gnutellanews.com/forums/wink.gif

Anyway, this just re-emphisises the need for MD5 checksums, as suggested by my post in the suggestions forum.

Hmm, lots of interesting posts here, Matt. In response to your Visual Basic comment, we're actually working on transitioning Gnotella from the Win32 environment to a (relatively) large MSDOS batch file. This would make it more efficient to work with, and skinning to a very very limited degree would still be supported (basic VGA palette customizing). This will probably be available in a few weeks - a month.
