Win2000

Running Windows 2000 (sp1) and MS Proxy Server.

Gnotella works great for about 10-15 minutes after which the buffers increase in size and the Sent/Recv/Drop all go to zero. The search monitor is empty.

Not sure if its a bug or not, probably just M$ proxy. But since this isn't very important I just wanted to throw it out.

I see this happening with mine as well... something is definitely wrong - any help ?

OK, after reading my post, I guess I wasn't very specific as to what I'm running. I will now provide that information, as well as some serious flaws in GnoTella 0.73 that I have found.

First of all, let me say that Gnotella is by far the best client that's currently available. Thanks for the awesome App Shaun and Yytrium! I only wish I could help you folks debug it or be a beta tester for ya! OK, now on to the good stuff http://forums.gnutellanews.com/smile.gif

System is as follows:
P3-500
192 Meg Ram
CableModem Connection (with ICS Proxy Host)
Windows 2000 SP1

***Note that these problems were all seen BEFORE SP1 as well, so it's not the Service Pack... I'm fairly positive that the problems have nothing to do with ICS either...***

1) Right after the install, I played with some numbers and was able to crash the program immediately... try typing 9999999999 in some of the fields under config. You get some nice buffer overflow errs!

2) I have not been able to get many, IF ANY, search results. I CAN with Gnutella 0.56, but not with GnoTella's 0.73. Something seriously needs to be worked on here... I don't think it's network congestion either.

3) SCANNING YOUR FILES... I really really don't like this... There should be an option for GnuTella to scan your mp3 bitrates or not. It takes FOREVER to load because of this, and I'd much prefer it to not have to go through the process each load time (or maybe have it save SOME information so that it'll 'remember' what it scanned before)

4) PROCESSOR USAGE is freaking unbelievable... I'm seeing CONSTANT 70% from GnuTella, and that has just got to be fixed. I don't understand how it could be using so much - it even makes my pimped-out system stutter every now and then... Not happy....

5) The Main Problem... Things shut down. The Host Catcher gets empty, hosts remain connected but stop transferring information, and nobody can download any songs from me. I WANT people to download my music, but with the latest version 0.73, nobody can get through! What's the deal here guys?

OK, enough of my rants... I'm stuck here at work and feel like bitching, that's all. Thanks for a great product - I only wish that I could somehow help you guys to make it the best it can be.

Sincerely,
PUC_Snakeman

I really dislike people like you. You bitch about the program, e-mail us demanding a response, and then throw in a few lines about how great it is, just to appease us. Please. Remind me again how much you paid for your copy? We don't owe you anything. You don't have a damn clue how hard we're working, so lose the "I'll bitch and make a difference" attitude. Fact is anything you report, odds are we knew about it a week ago.

PUC_Snakeman August 2nd, 2000 02:37 PM

Whoa, I'm sorry I came across as bitching... I'm just trying to help make a great product greater...

I apologize for sounding demanding as well... In reality, I was just interested in helping out in some way. I posted some problems that I saw, and tried to provide some sort of solution (like the bitrate file caching).

What more can I say/do? Or, I guess in your perspective, you'd rather I just shut up and not try to help by posting problems? What can I do to help?

And as far as you hating me, well I guess I respect that. I think that this program is already the cream of the crop, and you guys deserve to hate people like me who post probs...

Sorry for any misunderstandings,
With much respect,
PUC_Snakeman

Whoops, I'm sorry. I thought this was the bug reports forum.

If I didn't care about how hard you are working, or really dig Gnotella, chances are I would not be here.

i thought this was bug reports forum... hmmm, PUC_snakeman you need to learn what bugs are... (comments on your previous post below...)

#1 if your screwing with the configuration chances are the program will crash or get screwed up. So this isn't a bug.

#2 the search problem IS DUE to congestion... i got great search results in the morning, but later during the day i couldn't get jack... probably because there were more people on GnuNET. So this isn't a bug, and i've heard Yythium say that many times alreay...

#3 the scanning files isnt' a bug... i suggest posting about this in the suggestions area if you want it to be changed... napster does the same thing so i don't see what the problem is.

#4 this is probably a problem on your part! i have a 133 megahertz computer with not much RAM, and it isn't causing me a problem. Try having less connections or something...

#5 i have no idea what your talkin about with #5, im not having any problem of the sort... i have many uploads and incoming connections. Again this may be due to network congestion.

I bet if you really want to help make gnotella better you think before you make your posts. I bet you didn't stop for half a second to realize that most of the problems you mentioned are caused by GnOtella, therefore Yythrium can't do jack to fix it. I bet it gets really old to hear people go on and on about stuff they have no control over!

peace,
-sir

opps made some really bad spelling mistakes in the last paragraph... here is the fixed paragraph:

graig August 9th, 2000 09:56 AM

im only have 2 problems with gnotella.
1. the high cpu usage.
2. skips in the downloaded songs. i have tested some other clients and i dont receive skips when i download something from say gnucleus. i think i heard someone say that these skips are probably caused by the program locking up for a second during the transfer.
