gnotella 0.73 hangs on reading large remote mp3 dir here's my situation: i have a network at home consisting of a few machines, 2 of which are relevant to this problem. the first is a winnt 4.0 sp6 server that acts as my NAT and RAS server, with a dial up ISDN connection for net access. the second is a red hat linux box running samba. the samba machine is behind the NAT with a private address. i'm running gnutella on the NT box, and i would like it to be able to share the mp3s on the samba machine. the samba machine's soul purpose on my network is to hold 30+ gigs of sorted and clean mp3s. i wanna share! anyway, when i configure gnutella to share the mp3's from the samba box via a mapped drive in NT, it will sit there with "scanning files" on the task bar, and lock up hard. if i let it sit for an hour, it doesn't get any better. there's something like 30 gb in around 8,000 files, so it's a big directory. any idea what's happening here, is there anything i can do to solve it, or is there any further information i might give to help you track it down? |
In my experience, if you let a directory in NT get filled with 1024+ large files then don't expect *anything* to work correctly with it. I'm not sure if this is a NTFS issue that would carry over to a mapped directory; but the simplest answer is of course to break them up into subdirectories. |
