Memory Leak Well, running .73 on Windows NT Workstation 4 with service pack 6a yields a nasty memory leak. 6 Minutes and we are up to 12000K of memory used. This is with _only_ 2 outgoing connections. Upon starting, gnotella also tells me that i can't use the port I just used with it a moment ago? **CONSTRUCTIVE PART OF MESSAGE: The memory leak problem _seems_ to be related to the stats page and/or the spam filtering feature. As the stats tick away, the memory used seems to keep fairly close pace with it. |
I have the same problem -- gnotella *always* crashes with a close/ignore dialog after about 5 minutes. I choose close, and all of my other programs fail with 'not enough memory available' errors. I am not using NT, but windows 98. DSP |
I can verify the memory leak on win98se fresh install. using TaskInfo it appears the smallest amount of gain is 2k but I've seen jumps as high as 12k in the 1 second refresh interval. Memory usage is a bit on the high side when it is first started. I think some initialization routines need to be looked at also. |
Gnotella does use quite a bit of memory. I have an app called MemTurbo that I use to periodically defrag and reclaim the RAM that Gnotella uses. Also, when you close Gnotella after extended use it will take a while for it to actually close and return the RAM to the system. You can really close it by doing a ctrl-alt-del and killing Gnotella if the ctrl-alt-del window shows "Gnotella(not respomding)". This immediately returns the RAM to the system. The current version of Gnotella(0.73) is much better than previous versions when it comes to this RAM issue. I use Gnotella all the time and have downloaded and uploaded hundreds of files with it. It's a great program and it gets better with each release. The ability to limit incoming connections with Gnotella is essential when you are on a 56K dial-up like me. |
I did some more testing and found that the memory use increases even when a single stat number did Not change. hope this clue helps. |
