waveout format

i recently installed limewire 1.7 on a dell latitude laptop running windows 2000. i am having trouble playing files i've downloaded thru limewire (which is awesome). i was trying to use musicmatch, but i get the message "cannot play waveout format"??? i assume from reading these boards that this is what people talk about when they say"the files i've downloaded stay as gnutella/limewire files?"....is this correct? and what do i do about it?? how do i convert the files i've downloaded, (and will download in the future) into MP3 files??
thanks in advance for your time and help.
regards,

Well, this is Gnotella forums, not Limewire. I don't remember how Limewire works, and if it changes the file type as Morpheus does to a partial file. Gnotella does not. Even if the download has not been finished you can open that file.

It could also be that you another application is using the wave output. Close all programs that could be using it, for example, media players.

Maybe you should try www.winamp.com for play the MP3s!
I donīt think the files from Limewire are in a Limewire-format, the completed for shure not, those are normal MP3s, and the incomplete ones too!
