Runtime error 429

New install of 0.7 gives the message "Error scanning (shared files dir) ActiveX component can't create object" no matter which directory I choose to share files from. Also on closing the program I get "Runtime error 429 ActiveX component can't create object" (likely related) I believe this is preventing my sharing files. NT4.0 sp4 (kudos, this still has Gnutella beat hands down!) --Dave

Just a thought, but what kind of installation do you have? I'd recommend extracting the gnofiles.zip archive to its own directory and running it from there; I think it's likely that the scrrun.dll (responsible for scanning) isn't getting detected. Also, (actually, this may fix the problem completely), go to the MSDOS prompt and type (without quotes), "c:\path\to\regsvr32.exe c:\path\to\scrrun.dll" <- this will likely fix the problem. Of course, modify the directory paths to fit your system configuration. If you're unfamiliar with MSDOS, this may be difficult, but you're running NT so I'm assuming some computer experience http://www.gnutellanews.com/forums/smile.gif

You da man!
The install was done in it's own directory (twice, with file compares to check for corruption) Having lived in DOS and Unix for 20 years, I regard NT40 as the first (only) Windoze OS barely stable enough to use for real work. And yes, for whatever reason, the regsvr command made it happy.
Much grass! (for the fix, and the tradition of doing good work for it's own sake!)

Great! I had the same problem but I fixed it back in the 0.4.x days. Glad to help!

It helped me as well! Thanks a lot! I think it should be included in the FAQ

Thanks! I was about to post about this too.
I agree, put this in the FAQ!

To beat a dead horse, it also fixes the error 429 that can occur when exiting gnotella.

I am also getting the "...ActiveX component can't create object". Where is the file "regsvr32.exe" located. Is it part of Windows or is it part of the Gnotella install. I can not find this file on my system. I am running Windows 95 with Service Pack 1. I have Gnotella 0.73 installed.

regsvr32.exe is in the \Windows\System directory under 98 - so also under 95 I would think.

first i want to thank the_guy and Yytrium for the tips to fix the probs with the activeX error message! it bothered me to be unable allowing uploads with the gnotella client. i fixed it with the run command input of the_guy. from now i will allow downloads from my comp each (european) night.
p.s. if someone doesn't share some files, he/she doesn't understand the sense of the gnu-net (and similiar).
