Gnotella 093 and 096 MSWinsck.ocx problem

When starting either Gnotella 093 or 096, they both crash after trying to use UDP in/out to who knows where.
'This program has performed an illegal operation in MSWinsck.ocx bla bla bla'.
V073 works perfect.
When I stop UDP out, both start fine, but do not log onto the network.
Once started like this, and enabling UDP out again, they still don't log on.
Am using Wi*** and everyting standard, with 56K modem.
What the hell is going on?
Seems not everybody has the same problem, but some do.
Tried different versions of MSWinsck.ocx, same result.

2nd problem:
V093 is not displaying properly, especially in the Search and the Monitor screens.
Buttons are hidden half or nearly fully and some descriptions are unreadable.

Anybody has any idea? Or is it best, just not to use these falling over and unstable programs?
Are the creators of them hiding something nasty inside the .exe file maybe????

Just to start off we ARE definitely not hiding anything nasty.

Second, this is the first I heard of UDP being an issue, some testing has been done with UDP, but it is not enabled in the program and I see no use of UDP by it from any of my machines.

Ahh, it may be from the name resolution done on IPs that was new to 0.9.3, it doesnt use UDP, but this is what it may be mistaken for.

Do you have wsock32.dll on your machine? I may have to add some code to do it on a 95 machine differently if this is the problem.

Once again thanks for helping diagnose this, if you want to contact me through the website we can work to fix this quickly.

In terms of display issues, are you using regular or large fonts, due to the skinning there are some problems with large fonts that I am fixing as well. If you are using regular fonts could you send me a screenshot so I can see exactly what the problem is?

thanks for the bug hunting and hope we can fix these issues fast,

Hello Shaun,
Great to hear from somebody who knows the nittygritties!
Yes to both your questions.
I have wsock32.dll and I use large font in 800x600 (same problem in 1024x768).
I haven't tried small fonts yet (have to reboot - just read your message), but I won't use them anyway. Can't read much then on my 15" monitor.
I like V0.93. In fact I got it running by cheating it a bit. V0.96 started to work. I then copied the .ini and .net files to V0.93 and bingo! It works.
I like to see the node catcher screen, which V0.96 doesn't have anymore.
The crash seems to have to do something with the DNS as it happens just as it tries to connect after powerup.
If I can be of any assistance in testing, let me know.
You can E-Mail me to: gnotella@gondwana.cx

Cheers

Joe
