dont use gnotella, its got problems, and its been at the same version for about half of a year.. and older clients can create problems with the gnutella network. so you need to upgrade to a new client like toadnode.. or my new personal favorite.. bearshare. bearshare is really the perfect client.. and it was released probably about a week ago.

If yer gonna tell people to leave a reasonably stable, friendly app like gnotella, and install and use a new, freshly released, probably buggy and untried piece of code, the least you could do is:

1. EXPLAIN yourself, and
2. Provide a link.

I'll take care of 2. http://www.slaughterhouse.com/fileshare.html

I object to the buggy comment regarding BearShare!

BearShare is proven...look at what people are saying on deja and elsewhere.

Gnotella is one of the few older clients that does NOT create problems with the Gnutella network.

sorry to burst your bubble cyclocide, but gnotella needs to be updated! i was using gnotella before i read that post by graig, who i have to thank. gnotella used to drive me crazy, cause i never knew why it wasn't working. bearshare rules! unlike gnotella, which was a bitch to set up, bearshare gets started by itself with no configuring required, and tells you exactly why a file can't be downloaded. the searches are MUCH FASTER, and so far, no bugs on my system. i think if anyone tried bearshare they would no longer be using gnotella. peace - dolo54

I didn't say Gnotella doesn't have to be updated because it does (and it's going to be). I said that Gnotella is one of the few older clients that does not create problems with the Gnutella network.

Dude, if you're going to say that Gnotella sucks then at least explain why you think it sucks. It does NOT cause problems.

The Gnotella developer (there's only one) is working on a new version of Gnotella, but he has other commitments that come first.

Glad to hear of the in progress work on Gnotella. The known issue with Gnotella is now documented at http://dss.clip2.com/protocol_extensions.html

Gnutella 0.9.3 sucks what freaking planet are you all from? Gnutella 0.7.3 is much better doesn't freeze. Bearshare I hate the Interface but must admit it doesn't hog the CPU like Gnutella.

konrad_h March 4th, 2001 10:08 AM

You people obviously donīt know of the benefits of the only TRUE gnutella software, which is Furi. Not only that itīs cross-platform and 100% pure Java, it has also this fundamental special feature. You cann add "candidates" for a download. These are files of exactly the same size on any other server. So if a download is too slow or breaks, furi simply switches to the next host and resumes downloading from there. Now this is something even bearshare canīt do. And you wouldnīt believe how cool this is.

Gnotella was sold to EBUX for $1,000,000 US Dollars plus 20% of the royalties from commercialization plus 10% royalties from subsequent financings/securities.

So, will gnotella have its spyware built-in like earlier versions of Bearshare???? Or will it use a customized version of spyware that is not detectable by normal spyware detectors? Ala Real Networks.

konrad_h March 13th, 2001 02:39 PM

So what do I say? Stick to Furi. It is free (in the true sense of the word) and you can check the sourcecode if you want. What more could you possibly want?

mp3 punk March 13th, 2001 04:38 PM

what the heck Gnutella bites and every thing on the gnutella network bites its too slow and to hard to find crap and isnt very user friendly. Win MX is so much better! and what am i say napster is better than this and napster sucks

BearShare STILL has spywear in it, it just doesn't give you a choice to not have it installed. At least you can remove it withougt killin the client, for now at least. I doubt that it will last.
